Angels in discussions with CC Sabathia

I am on the train to bring in CC. I think this is more than just so CC can give us innings and pitch, it's more of trying to bring in a mentor for Skaggs and Heanay, similar to how pujols is for the hitters.  Quite frankly i wouldn't really care about the numbers he's put for us, but more on how a future Hall- Famer can help improve  Heaney, Skaggs and Ohtani next year but also help a few of our young studs in the Minor during spring training..

Assuming the Halos go to a 6-man rotation(which Eppler heavily implied), Sabathia can slot into the rotation as that steady vet guy among a group of young and uncertain arms. Sure as hell beats the last vet guy they had(Nolasco)

Richards
Sabathia
Ohtani
Skaggs
Shoemaker
Heaney

Bridwell/Barria/Scribner/JC Ramirez as depth

Nice R/L/R/L/R mix.

If we sign Sabathia, I would think that it means that Eppler has another deal in place involving one of the other starters.

Right, exactly.  I think if we sign Sabathia, it means we're probably shipping one of our younger starters in a deal for someone, most likely a 2B.

don't know what his asking price is - but with Ohanti pitching once a week, you could put Sabtathia on the same type of rotation and make him more effective over the long season.

Halos would go from a so-so rotation to a pretty nasty one fairly quickly.

Sabathia, I think can still be a solid six inning starter...........once a week.

Ohtani may force MLB to re-think five man rotations..........

Otani has thrown 61, 155, 160, 140, and 25 innings since 2013. I don't envision us throwing him out there this season for 200 innings. Richards has thrown 60 innings over the last 2 seasons. Skaggs and Heaney are still working their way back from injuries. Shoe threw 77 innings last year. Tropeano didn't pitch at all last season. Of our prospective starters, Bridwell threw the most innings last season at 121.

All of this is to say -- having a guy like CC who could cover 150-160 innings, and potentially more if he stays healthy, is a big asset for us. I think it is important for us to pick up a CC-type to 1) potentially free up one of these other guys to trade and 2) to cover innings.
