Are the Angels technically in this? Yes.

Are they really though? Come on...

Even if by a miracle this team makes the playoffs. They're most likely going to get stomped by Houston. Anything can happen in baseball but looking at this team right now. They're no where close to being a contender. Mike Trout AND SIMMONS gives us a puncher's chance though.

We just traded our best bulllen arm for nothing. I don't think the FO thinks we're really in it.

That's not totally fair.  They traded a veteran relief pitcher for someone who is a crap shoot, and he wasn't the best bullpen arm - Parker is the best bullpen arm.  Hernandez would have no value to them in two months as he becomes a free agent.  If they really want him back, sign him in free agency for market value.  It's a future move with extremely low risk, other than you remove a bullpen arm just prior to regaining some previously injured pitching.  That will force Chavez and probably Ramirez to the bullpen.  Chavez because he should have been there all along, and Ramirez because you need to take innings pressure off his arm.  The net is that we have a minor league development project for little impact to the current staff.  Billy thinks we are in it if we can recover the lost starters, or at least a couple of them.

we're gonna likely need about 86-88 wins for that second wild card slot.  After 107 games, we're 52-55.  So in our remaining 55 games, we have to go 35-20.  A .636 win %.  It could end up where we would need a couple less than that, but we're gonna have to play at least .600 ball.  That is going to require a lot of 6 inning 1 run starts from Nolasco and a bunch of 5 rbi nights from Albert.

The Angels won't need as much from Nolasco IF they end up getting Heaney, Skaggs, Shoe and Meyer back as expected.  Getting those four back in the rotation changes everything IMO.

I think the Angels, especially if Heaney replaces Nolasco this weekend, have the better starting pitchers going except for game one of the series.

Erasmo Ramirez has pretty much had the Angels number..  Doesn't matter how bad he is .vs the rest of MLB, the Angels have always had trouble with him.   Same goes for Ariel Miranda --  pretty sure he's 4-0 .vs them for his career.  Small samples obviously, but they have both better better against the Angels than their overall numbers.

We have to hope the more recent "hot offense" can finally score some runs off of these guys.  This is a very important series.
