He also said he would not vote for the bill as it is now and that after it likely fails, they should open up debate with democrats.

I would think you would actually agree with him.

If he truly wanted to stop the process, he could have voted no and told McConnell to send the bill to committee and have an open discussion that involved Democrats. As could any of the senators who expressed dismay and voting to proceed with a bill they didn't know about and couldn't support.

And they will vote to approve whatever shit McConnell puts in front of them, to move the bill to conference, and they'll cry the same crocodile tears while selling out tens of millions of people for a tax cut.

it is discussion.  I guess we will see.  I don't think there is anything he could do or say that you wouldn't criticize.

If he actually lived up to his pr and didn't prove time and again he was nothing more than a partisan hack that probably wouldn't be the case.

It was pretty surreal hearing him whine about partisanship.

I'm surprised any of us can even register such things after listening to Trump for what feels like an eternity.

But the ugliest thing to witness on a very ugly day in the United States Senate was what John McCain did to what was left of his legacy as a national figure. He flew all the way across the country, leaving his high-end government healthcare behind in Arizona, in order to cast the deciding vote to allow debate on whatever ghastly critter emerges from what has been an utterly undemocratic process. He flew all the way across the country in order to facilitate the process of denying to millions of Americans the kind of medical treatment that is keeping him alive, and to do so at the behest of a president* who mocked McCain's undeniable military heroism.

Oh hyperbole, thou art red's friend

It's not hyperbole.  It's irony.

And his rant was surreal because he was crying about partisanship almost immediately after he voted on a purely partisan line.  To continue debating something he claims to oppose.  If he really had genuine opposition to it, he could have just voted against.  His "maverick" image is a pretty solid load of bullshit.

He voted on a purely partisan line?  So there were no Cons that voted no and there were some Dems that voted yes?

im sorry that I didn't perfectly describe the situation.  John McCain voted in a completely partisan manner.  He voted for it, he claims to be against.  That is partisan voting.
