Huston Street remains the closer over Cam Bedrosian despite sucking for nearly the entire season, Scott demotes their closer in favor of a rookie who has been lights out, much like Bedrosian.

Edwin Diaz has replaced Steve Cishek as the Mariners' primary closer.

 

Mariners manager Scott Servais made the announcement after Steve Cishek gave up the go-ahead run in Monday's loss to the Red Sox. Diaz has been lights out since coming up from the minors, posting a 1.80 ERA and 49/7 K/BB ratio over 25 innings. "He’s obviously the logical choice and he’s ready for that," Servais said. "There’s no doubt."

I don't know if that's a comparable situation. Street was out for a long time and hasn't had very steady work. He was also being auditioned for a possible trade. While I think we all agree that Bedrosian is the better pitcher now there's still room to debate whether Street, who is signed for another year, needs to lose the closer role without a few opportunities to make amends. Scioscia seems willing to give that and that's probably why players like playing for him while it's a big unknown how much they'll like Sevais over the long term.

Mike Scioscia is responsible for the demise of the franchise a lot more than people are willing to admit. His style of managing is obsolete. He's been surrounded by plenty of talent to work with over the years since 2002 but failed to produce a championship. He's undermined his GM's along the way and was the driving force that pushed out Napoli and brought us Vernon Wells. He wasn't thrilled that Trout was called up while Abreu was sent packing.

His stubbornness to continue accommodating veteran players is ridiculous. When you allow a player to tell you when and where he's going to play and where he's going to hit on the lineup card you lose respect from the rest of the team. 

Sosh could've brought us some prospects at the deadline. He would've been the perfect person to move since he's outta here after 2018 anyway.

Shields was by far our best reliever and he seldom closed.  I do remember that one year he had to close a bit for us.

Which is hard to do in so few outings, but Mike is just really good at being bad and making bad stuff happen.  It's his gift.

Facts aren't important blaming Scioscia is what is important.  Mike probably pushed him down a flight of stairs because Mike was purposely trying to lose games because he is a Dodger at heart.

Scioscia has his strengths and weaknesses, like anyone else. He's a great "player's manager" in that he really has their back. He's a great clubhouse manager as well. His pre-games are light, fun, optimistic. His team building exercises during spring training is the stuff of legends. He has a good rapport with MLB umpires and the commissioner's office, which can't hurt. He handles the media really well.

But his weaknesses are the same they've always been. Not as open to deploying prospects as he should be. The worst bullpen manager maybe ever. In game tactics are questionable. His personnel choices are at times, laughable.

As far as managers go, he's ok. Not good, but not the worst either.

And Servais, we don't know what sort of manager he is. Decent first season in Seattle. He's meeting expectations. He and Scioscia don't like each other.

Scioscia is a proactive manager in style, not a reactive one.  That doesn't mean he is always right, no managers are.  He makes decisions based on what he feels is the long term good, not necessarily on what happened in a few instances.  Street has closed 9/12 attempts, that's a bad percentage by his standards.  The key number to me is that he has only had 12 opportunities.  Street will get paid a lot of money next year to close, I'm not sure moving him to another role makes sense this year or next, trading or otherwise releasing him does if he can't get back to his standard.  He'll most likely be gone starting in 2018.  It's all about how much patience you have, and not setting Bedrock back when he fails a few times, and it will happen, it does to all.

Servais sucks by the way.

This is another ignorant post of yours which is mostly speculative.  Here is what is true from your post, he was the driving force to trade Napoli and he has failed to bring us a championship since 2002.  The rest is you being you.  If he didn't like Trout being on the team why did he start him 138 of a 139 games that year?  You give him all this power, yet he has complete power over who is in his line up and yet pissed off Mike starts Trout in basically every game the rest of the year after his call up.  Now if you would have said he was upset when Mickey was let go, I would have agreed with you, but you are speculating about the Abreu thing, as you often do.
