Braves trade Jhoulys Chacin to Angels

#Braves are finalizing a trade of RHP Jhoulys Chacin to #Angels. He had been scheduled to start tonight for ATL.

You know in reality a top 5-10 pick in each round of the Draft and the ability to not lose draft pick comps on some FA's next year kind of looks like a nice idea..... Though I have no clue what we gave up for him? .... Maybe, BEDROCK, ALBQ, Joe Smith?

Chacin can be effective as long as he keeps the ball in the yard. 3.92 FIP 3.32 xFIP with 9 K/9 and just under 3 BB/9. He's not a star but he could be useful.

If they didn't give up much for him than I'm not against the move...sounds like he was acquired to buy Heaney, Skaggs, and Wilson more time and to prevent the promotion of Kyle Kendrick, which no one here wants to see.

BTW, i'm sure you didn't check but Chacin is just 28 years old and up until his last start he's been pretty decent. 

He looked really good in his first start of the season against a good Nationals offense.

Threw 6 shutout innings, striking out 8.

So they are trying to patch holes so they can finish with 70 wins instead of 65 ? What for ?

Does the team really want to become the MLB version of the NJ Devils ?

I'm really pissed right now, this franchise is frustrating the Hell outta me, these latest moves (Ryan / Chacin) make Z-E-R-O sense! Why aren't they ust playing the minor leaguers? It's cheaper and it gives us a chance to see what (if anything) they got. It's almost as if the team is just making these stupid little useless moves to keep the appearance up that they're actually "trying." It's time to do what we all know is right: BLOW IT UP AND REBUILD AROUND TROUT!

It'll all depend on what we gave up. 

Ryan didn't matter because all we gave up is yatch fuel.  Although it will be interesting if the PTBNL clause kicks in, then it might be a different story.

Chacin isn't bad and might be worthy of bringing back for next year as well.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports the Braves are trading Jhoulys Chacin to the Angels.

 

Chacin was scheduled to start for the Braves on Wednesday night against the Phillies, but this isn't an organization that cares about having to do a quick roster shuffle at this point. The right-hander had registered a 5.40 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and 27/8 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings (five starts) this season for Atlanta. His numbers looked much better before a beatdown last Wednesday against the Mets.

For the long term, Eppler needs to think outside the box because we are in a mess....if this guy has some long term potential and the cost isn't prohibitive (I doubt the Braves give him away, the way the Nats did Ryan), then why not....

You do not call it quits and rebuild on May 11th, EVER, under any circumstances. 

Injuries to the starting pitching and the offense sucking is the reason this team is where they're at.

I don't agree at all, even with a healthy pitching staff and an offense that's clicking this roster still has "80 wins" (max) written all over it. Even if we somehow pick it up and sneak into the playoffs...do you honestly believe we can beat anyone? My main point is, why bother trading for Ryan and Chacin when you can just give Pennington the job and call-up a Nate Smith or let Rasmus start? It just seems pointless when we could have saved $$$ and given some of the kids a shot, total fu**ing headscrather, then again...I haven't understood anything this organization has done since 2002, LMAO!

Some moves are made with this year in mind, some are made with the future in mind.

I don't think I want my GM's thought process to be "F@ck it, this season is toast" while he puts his feet on his desk and throws paper airplanes around his office.

His job is to improve the team and should continue to make moves with that in mind.  Acquiring Chacin makes sense (pending what was sent) in terms of SP depth.  The fact is someone has to start every 5th day and the rotation has been decimated by injuries and maybe, in the organization's opinion, Smith is not ready to make his debut.

The answer to this team's whoas is more subtle that "we suck, start the AAA players!"

I like the acquisition overall! Would be a decent mid rotation starter with a little upside. He's been kind of a hard luck guy while pitching in Coors Field. K totals are nice and he's hit the 190 inning total twice in his career.
