After 7 innings in Salt lake Cowart is 4-4 with 2 doubles and is batting .311/.366/462/.829 with 25 RBIs.

I doubt last year was as big of a fluke as everyone said.

I don't recall everyone saying it was a fluke.  It's reasonable to be skeptical about small sample sizes... and it was a small sample size when people started talking about him last year.  There was similar talk about a Jett Bandy hot streak.... he cooled off and ended up with decent-but-unexciting numbers for the PCL.  Same can be said for many other players.  Cowart also had been very bad in AA, then in High A.

I'm still skeptical.  He's now hitting .290/.344/.420.

A lot of people said last year was a fluke but I'm not going to search for them now. Besides I explained that AA tried to fix what wasn't broken with his swing. It took him a long time to find it again in A ball early last year.

Alex Klonowski might be a guy to look out for going forward. He allegedly just started using a knuckleball in game action and it's supposed to be pretty darn good. That last outing is encouraging too. More about it here: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/alex-716523-klonowski-never.html

Awesome story. I hope Alex can continue to throw the knuckleball with success. That would be a pretty damn good repertoire of pitches.

Does anyone know what his fastball sits at? I mean if it's even in the low 90's, that knuckball + fastball combo would be devastating for a hitter to get comfortable at the plate.

The fuck happen to Baldoquin? I remember him coming back from an injury in early may. Checked his stats. He played 2 games in early may after missing almost all of april.

Reaggravated his hamstring. Back on the DL.

Bo Way was batting .263 on 5/16. One week later, he's batting .306 after going 11-20 this past week.

Digging deeper, he's been incredibly streaky this year (this breakdown includes every game played):

23-57   (.404)

3-34     (.088)

11-20   (.550)

Only a guy named Klonowski could be the perfect fit for a knuckleball. Imagine the nickname for strike outs, it is pretty simple, Klown-outski.

A - won 8-0

Jared Foster 2-4, 2hr, 5rbi.  .266/.793.  Still like his upside.  One of the few guys in our system who could end up a player.  Long way to go, but the athleticism is there for sure.

Jose Rodriguez 5ip, 1h, 0er, bb, 4k.  3.35 era.  20yo showing some promise.

Luis Pena, 4ip, 0h, 0er, 5k.  Another 20yo who's innings per appearance have been ramping up.  4 in each of his last couple.  38k in 30.2ip.

BTW, you may have noticed those two young guns combined for a 1 hitter.

A+ - lost 6-1.  18-35 overall.  tough season so far.

Arakawa, 2-4.  .292/.749.  One of the lone bright spots for the team so far.

AA - lost 10-2

Caleb Adams, 2-5, rbi.  Just called up to AA.  .289/.757 at A+

Cal Towey, 2-4, rbi.  .306/.884.

AAA lost 5-1

Choi 0-1 and pulled after 2 PA.  .320/.906 in 50 AB since joining the bees.

Cowart 2-3, double, bb.  .310/.825.  Continues to prove that last year wasn't a fluke.  Happy b-day btw.  24yo today.

Despite an awful first few weeks in AAA, Sherman Johnson has picked it up of late. His slash line for the year sits now at .280/.358/.518 ... He has more HR (8) than Cowart, Cunningham and Kubitza combined, all of whom have played 2+ months in the hitter friendly PCL.

Meanwhile, Cowart continues to hit above .300, get on base and play incredible defense at SS.

I wonder why they're playing him there a lot recently, especially with Simmons coming back in a week (starts a rehab tomorrow).

Could the Angels seriously have found an adequate replacement at SS defensively in Cowart who scouts are raving about with the glove? Maybe they're preparing themselves to sell at the deadline in case we're out of it?!?! Just a thought. I'd like to see Cowart get some chances in LF, which is a big black hole for this team.
