This happened a couple days ago, but we've had a Crusito Mieses sighting in Orem. Mieses is one of the few actual upside arms the Angels have unearthed in their Dominican drought. Big, long pitcher's frame, fastball sits 92-93, good downhill slope. Raw but projectable.

DSL

Another hr for Angel Molina.  2-4, hr, 3rbi.  As most of the DSL guys are young and developing, there isn't much power shown.  The league leader had 11.  The top 16 had 6 or more.  Again, Molina is 18 years old.

AZL

Gabriel Santana 2-4, double, bb

Ryan Vega, 2-5

Keinner Pina 2-5.  19yo Catcher from Venezuela.

Jose Suarez 3ip, 3bb, 3k, 0er, 0h.  18yo from Venezuela.  did well in DSL last year.  55ip, 43h, 8bb, 34k.

Sean Isaac 2ip, 0er, 0h, 3k. 23yo, 35th rounder from Vanguard

Orem

Thaiss 0-4.

Jones 0-3, 2bb

Brennon Lund, 0-2, bb, sb (5)

Barash 1-3

Justus 1-3, double,

Troy Montgomery 2-3, hr, 2rbi

Sean McDonnell 1-3, triple, sb, bb.  20yo LFer.  36th rounder in 2015.  .349 obp last year in AZL

Austin Robichaux 4ip, 1h, 0er, 0bb, 2k

Greg Belton, 1ip, 0er 23yo 27th rounder from sam houston st.

AA

Eric Aguilera 4-4, double, hr (10), .283/.799.  Good line for playing you home games at Dickey Stephens.  Very consistent moving one level at a time.  .299/.833 for his minor league career.  Now 25 soon to be 26 though.

Zach Nudig 2ip, 3h, 0er, 1k.  2.18 era for the year.

AAA

Sherman Johnson 3-3, double, bb.  Up to .238/.688 after a cold start at AAA.

Towey 2-4

Cowart 1-4, hr

Jose Valdez 1ip, 1h, 3k.  26yo with a live arm vying for a clean peanut award.

This question is for whoever might know the answer. What kind of restrictions are put on the pitchers who just walked into pro ball? Are they telling them to avoid or limit throwing certain pitches? Are they telling them to concentrate on any one thing more than the other? I'm sure it varies from team to team.

It varies pitcher to pitcher. Most of them that were just signed go straight to Orem or Arizona and there isn't a ton of coaching that happens before their first game. That's why the Rookie Leagues are a tryout of sorts, just to guage where a player is to start their career. That's why most of them are on a 30-pitch pitch count to start. Now after a start or two or more importantly a couple bullpen sessions, then the pitchers start to get some feedback and instruction. But generally, starting pitchers, they want to see clean repeatable mechanics and a change up. Relievers, they just want them to keep it simple and throw strikes.

Question....do you guys still consider Ji-man a prospect?  Personally, I do.  He hasn't had a fair shake in the majors yet (which is fair, he looked awful).  But his age, upside and performance in AAA so far make him a legitimate prospect in my book.  Not one that is buzz worthy so much, but one that may step in and surprise some people.

What do you think?

Yeah, I'd consider him a prospect. Ortega and Marte as well. They're all basically the same age. Marte has a bit more experience. Trop and Perez were close to the same type of prospect too.

I think Eppler will keep an eye out for guys like this next year or two.

Choi's lack of power is going to limit him relative to his position.  But he's legit in the fact that he's a fringe major leaguer with some upside.  Certainly not time to write him off that's for sure.  When your only trick is obp, major league pitchers will exploit you unless you can actually hit the ball
