Bernie's free college idea

Recommended Posts

I have two kids, and me and my wife make about 90k gross between the two of us working constantly.

I'm pretty sure at this rate i'm never going to be able to afford a house (not a chance in hell in california), nor send my kids to college, and i'm doing pretty damn well for myself at my age.

Baby boomers lived in a dream world economy and then screwed it up for future generations, so they can go **** themselves.

ALF,  my dad made less than that (usually much less) and raised 5 kids who all graduated from college.  The key is to begin preparing for it immediately.  I'm not referring to just saving money for it, but  ensuring they take school seriously in order to get good grades.  There is a lot of money out there for kids who have the grades and desire to go to college.

or they can get C's and have daddy cut a check to usc

When did your dad's kids go to college?

My kids having good grades is absolutely important to me by the way, College isn't gonna be a free ride regardless.

I thought I wanted to be a sports journalist but hated college. So I had to decide, go build houses with my brother, or stick with INO. I obviously stuck with INO, and I am incredibly fortunate that my personal skill set matched with being successful for a company that pays their talent.

since when is a free college education a right?

Why shouldn't it be? The world is changing.

Lou, I'm pretty sure you're not a young guy - if I remember correctly you're in your 50s or so, which would make your dad in his 70s? The cost of living has gone way up over the last 40+ years.

All that said, I don't disagree with the gist of what you're saying, although I think in the end it is most important to be a kid when you're a kid and try not to worry so much about adult life problems. Having a rich and full childhood is going to serve them more in the long run than getting the best possible grades. I just think it important to emphasize how much cost of living has changed.

Bernie only earned $2k in speech money compared to Clinton's $100 million+. And he donated it all to charity. Tells me all I need to know on who I respect more and who I'd rather vote for

Well this is a prime example of how lazy socialists are content to live off their government job while industrious capitalists strive for more.

Holy shit, Lou's in his 50's?

Looking good amigo!

First off Lou isn't that old and in the Latino community there is only a 15 year span between generations.

Which gets weird at restaurants where only the great great grandparents are old enough to order from the senior menu (which causes confusion sine they think it is only for men) and the expectant mothers are still ordering off the kids menu.

Easy. Cut heavily in other areas.

I also don't understand how you are willing to pay for all of this stuff without first balancing the budget. We are running at a huge deficit yet Bernie and all his followers are happy to add another trillion dollars in debt.

Exactly. Balance what you have now before you go reaching for more. One thing that stuck with me was during a budget crisis a couple years ago I saw a sign in someone's front yard that said "Dig Deeper"

At first I thought it referred to digging a tunnel to complete the 710 through South Pasadena. But I came to realize it meant they wanted othersto dig deeper into their pockets to bail out the govt, all while they were living in heavily subsidized CalTrans housing. Hypocrites
