Bernie's free college idea

Recommended Posts

Look at it from the consumer's point of view, you don't get insurance to cover your runny nose.

I'm not sure if a free market with the insurance industry would work out so well. I could see the insurance companies trying to dodge out of the way of so many charges "sorry, we don't cover that."

The government is saying that insurance has to pay for it so doctors charge as much as they want with no recourse.  Especially since most doctors now are part of medical groups which further increases their negotiating power.

Think of it this way, you are a healthy person in your early 20s, and you have the choice between a plan with a low rate but it only allows one free office visit a year, doesn't cover mental health, other than an exam, and only covers generic meds, etc and it costs you $50 a month.  Your other option is a plan that covers 5 free visits a year and 28 mental health exams a year but costs $450 a month and name brand RX at a 15$ copay, which would you pick?

Guess what that $50 plan doesn't exist anymore because it is illegal.

Then the government needs to do a better job of regulating hospitals if this is the path they take.

I still believe a single payer system would be better because it cuts out a lot of wasted money, no offense.

You think the government would do a better job than a company that has to answer to stock holders?

What has the government ever done that didn't include a ton of waste?

It isn't like a single payer system is free, it comes at a gigantic cost to tax payers.

You are doing the same thing Bernie does, AJ.  The characterization of rich people as these people who cheat the system is BS.  Most of the 1% pay their taxes, live upstanding lives, etc.  It is slanderous to say what you are saying.  The biggest cop out of all is how people are blaming the rich for their problems.

Remember how Hitler blamed the Jews for the financial issues in Germany?  The people he pointed to were the Jewish elite.

Slanderous? Hitler?

Jesus man.

But it's the system that Bernie and all the Democrats put in place.

Sure. The Cons allowed the Libs to build the program exactly as they wanted. The Cons had no hand in forcing policies that screwed with the structure.

It could be worse right now or it could be better but everyone built what we now have.

You say that like a company that answers to stock holders actually benefits everyone else.

We are putting way too much time and effort into all of this. There is zero chance that if Bernie gets elected any of this actually gets through congress.

yup.  Bernie is sounding like the mad scientist uncle of Trump.  It isn't happening but there are some things needing changed with the costs of education.

But you can built a system that is better than another.

I am selfish and feel I already give enough money to the government each year, so it still comes down to better for whom. Now if we want to start all over and make the government properly manage the money they already get, that's fine.
