I wasn't a fan of Gott so I'm pretty meh on this trade.

Like mentioned above if Escobar can come close to his career numbers it's a nice pick up. I think Gott's September was him coming back to earth more so than hitting a rookie wall or whatever.

Escobar is the perfect #2 hitter.

I like Morin quite a bit. He was very good at the end of the year and I think he'll have a great 2016.  

 

Gott is unproven, no question, but he wouldn't bring much in a trade.  He's young and cheap. See what he can do.  

 

I still think the bullpen, as is, will be much better next year.

Why? You have to give up something to get something. We gave up a guy that has one pitch and got a 2nd baseman or 3rd baseman with a career .350 OBP.

We gave up a very young promising reliever for a 34 year old 2nd baseman because the team's owner is too stingy to spend money. Don't try and spin this as some sort of positive. 

 

edit: maybe I should chill out, sorry. I just think the bullpen is in dire need of upgrade now.

And, it gives us a leadoff hitter, which we've needed for about the last five years.

I think this is a good pick up. Escobar is a solid lead off guy and the price is definitely right. As long as he's playing 2b this is pretty good. I liked Gott, and I think the bullpen is an area of need, but this fills a pretty important big hole. Gott is replaceable when the return is a pretty good everyday bat. Now let's hope it works out with one of the OF.

We needed a 2nd basemen, unless you want to see Gia in there for another year. And for once they finally paid attention to OBP.

It creates another weakness in the pen, but id wager a bet that its a lot easier to find a quality reliever than an OBP 2B right now.

I would think you play Escobar at 3rd.  For all the hate on Johnny, he was a 1 War player at league minimum and had almost a .700 OPS.  That's fairly valuable on a team with budget constraints due to poor contracts.  I wouldn't look to upgrade 2B until LF is solved first.

He's not great but they need to add to the bullpen even more than they did 30 minutes ago now. At least we addressed 2B
