Why the Angels need Heyward more than any other team

I just don't think the Cards or Cubs will shell out the dough to get Heyward. Neither were going to spend that much on a starting pitcher (rumors were that the Cards bid for Price were $30 million less than Boston's offer), I don't think Heyward is a huge need for the Cardinals considering they have Grichuk, Holliday, Pham, and Piscotty in the outfield, along with big needs at first and the starting rotation with Lynn out for the year (and losing Lackey). Between the two, I'd think the Cubs sign him, and trade Soler for a starting pitcher.

A-Rod'sfirst ten year contract would have been perfectly fine if he wasn't doing PEDs. Cano and Albert were both over 30. This is no different than signing a 30 year old to a 6 year deal.

You have to rely on that player staying healthy for the long term. That's pretty risky. Then what if he ends up sucking during half of that deal. You end up with Vernon Wells again.

So if he starts sucking or is injury plagued you can bet he won't opt out.

Anybody can have injuries. Heyward's game has steadily been improving the past few years and that's the type of trend I want to see the Angels buy into

K rate has declined in 3 straight years. BA has improved in past 3 seasons. Contact% and Z-contact% all improving with each season and his Outside Swing % has decreased each of the past 4 years. Basically, it's showing a young hitter who continues to get better and better with each year. He's now entering his Age 26 season and should start reaching the peak of his production

You can say this about everyone. What if Trout breaks his leg this year?

We didn't give Trout a 10 year deal. Mike Trout is our guy and was 22 years old when he signed that 6 year extension. There's no comparing Trout to Heyward. Jason Heyward has already been traded once and may be on the move again. He's not a 10 year investment type player IMHO.

Totally agree, Trout is MVP-caliber.  Not even a reasonable comparison.

Several people have brought up the fact that Atlanta traded Heyward, and they're making it sound like it's a knock on Heyward. Maybe the Braves decided to cash in their chit while they still could because they certainly weren't going to resign him.

He is exactly the type of player who is a good 10-year investment because of his age. Remember that Pujols was given a 10-year contract thru his age 41(!) season. This would be thru Heyward's age 35 season, which was Albert's age this year.
