So what does this mean for Baldoquin? Do they intend on making him a 2B going forward or are they just gonna go and trade him as well?

It means the guy that was part of a team with a massive international department and scouting network doesn't think much of JD's guy.  On the plus side we will be able to spend on International FAs again in two years.

Nobody thought much of Baldoquin but Jerry...other teams and scouts were shocked at the signing....

According to FanGraphs, Simmons is the 30th most valuable player in baseball in terms of trade value.  This is what it takes to pick up a contract with that kind of perceived value.

I’ve had more than one front office member point out that Simmons’ early career numbers look remarkably similar to that of Ozzie Smith. And if Simmons takes any kind of step forward at the plate, he’s a superstar.

Fingers crossed that Eppler is right on this one...

As someone who's followed Simmons since the moment he came up, the guy is a barely replacement level hitter. How good can someone's defense possibly be to justify such a gross overpayment?

He's won 2 gold gloves in 4 years.  So I'm hoping he's the next coming of the Wiz of Oz.

Hearing that #Angels will also be getting a top catching prospect in Simmons/Aybar deal.

Good thing we'd didn't draft that top catching prospect this past year already. WTF.

Okay guys... Simmons isn't "marginal." Not by a long shot. He's possibly the best defender of all time... He's an upgrade, a big one, and with 5 years of club control to boot. He's very valuable. Yes I get that we gave up a lot, too much even, but to say that Simmons is a "defensive specialist" is insulting to the guy who has no match defensively. It's not like he's completely inept with the bat either. He's a 85 OPS+ hitter with the best defense you've ever seen. 4 to 5 WAR is expected. He's 26 and coming into his prime. He's worth a lot.

Just wow...don't get it.

Arte will have to open the wallet now and sign some FA offense.  We cashed in our chips already.  We now have zero top 100 prospects.

Sign Heyward and catch every ball hit.

Yeah, I think Heyward makes the most sense now.  Just by this move, it looks like we will be relying a lot on fielding.
