There were zero expectations heading into the Angels 2002 season. If you ask most baseball experts and even Giants fans if they had the warm and fuzzies about the club's outlook heading into the last three world series they've won, all of their answers were a resounding NO.

Dipoto left a mess for the new GM. I think we're on the right track now. Those of you who want instant gratification need to find a corner and take care of business.

Disagree. He left an organization deep in starting pitching, the most valuable commodity in baseball. And he probably could have pulled off some trades that would have helped the offense and kept us within Arte's budget, something Eppler hasn't been able to do yet.

If every player we signed who has been crappy the last few years has a "return to average" year like Eppler or whomever said then maybe we can sneak in as a wildcard team and play 1 more game than we did last year. We aim high in our goals.

On the flipside, if these guys who have sucked continue to suck we are winning about 70 games.

If you look at last year, and the AL West competition...Texas struggled until they got healthy and took off late in the season, and Houston dominated until they slowed late in the season.

Both those teams have improved in the off season. The Angels added a classy SS, but failed to address the leadoff role AND the weak platoon in LF.

I expect the Angels starting pitching to be improved with the addition/return of Skaggs, but the pen looks mediocre and highly suspect to me.

I think the Halos will compete through the first half, finishing the season behind both the teams from Texas, and possibly even a rejuvenated Mariners..who will probably continue to make trades during the season, with Dipoto at the helm.

With Cespedes looking to be signed in the next day or two, things look bleak for any great improvements in the offense.
