Kaleb Cowart called up

They needed a shot in the arm, and Cowart is swinging the hot bat.

I wonder who in the FO made the choice?

I don't don't think it was one person's choice, more likely Klentak, Servias, Stoneman and Scioscia collaberating.

If he does well Dipoto will get the credit because he called Servias and suggested the move.

If he tanks, Scioscia will get the credit as he destroyed the kids confidence as he was misused.

I like Cowart, but before we all get too excited, his line vs. left-handers this year at AAA is

.204/.288/.262

118 PA

Where are you getting this? I'm seeing .293/.354/.379 vs lefties and .333/.410/.531 against righties.

Edit: I think you're looking at his overall and not his AAA splits as he was quite awful against lefties in A+.

I stand corrected. I didn't realize Baseball Reference failed to separate his A+ from his AAA splits this year. He must have been really, really bad at A+ against lefties.

For quite some time he was really, really bad at hitting a baseball period.

Doesn't he have a good eye? Or am I making that up? I always worry about younger guys coming up and swinging at shit

I thought he did very well.  The kid has a great arm.  The first one is out of the way, now he can relax, and go for a hit.  Sometimes this organization doesn't give its farm players time to develop properly because of the "win now" pressures.  Keep him in there and let him play, we have Kubitza and eventually Freese if it gets too much for him this year.
