was at the game last night and sat right by 3rd base on field level

his defense was spot on, i thought he did a great job last night

 

 

I watched him play in Reno last week and he is by far the best defensive 3B they have had in over a decade.  He looks like he belongs out there.  He made two really good plays and made them look pedestrian.

He will better those numbers in the pros. I see him as a Chipper Jones type.

My guess is, and this is only a guess, that Cowart's Angel career will be somewhere between that of Gary Gaetti and Chipper Jones.

The Rat played in the bigs something like 20 years.

I remember his stint with the Cubbies in the late 90's..he was a fan favorite and helped them into the playoffs with some clutch hitting, and he was almost 40 if I remember correctly.

Gaetti hit like Matt Joyce when he was with the Angels. And once he left, he started hitting again.

Gaetti had some great years with the Twinkies and had a few good years after he left here spread out across a few stops KC 35Bombs 95+RBI's...

 

 

Now, you could have dropped a Gruber (as a Halo) or Jack Howell reference and people would have thought hmmmmm... yeah maybe~

 

If Cowart can hit 260-275 with 20+ Bombs and 70-80 RBI's and stay healthy and play Great Defense! I'm good with those #'s for 8-10 years! It would mean we would need one less position acquisition....

No need to proclaim him the next anything.  Cowart has enough pressure, being a #1 pick, than someone who seemed to be washing out, and even his replacement was traded for the past off season.

 

Just be patient.

You could have just gone from Chipper Jones to Brandon Wood.  Then no one would be confused about the potential range.

considering how bad Featherston and Gillespie was at the plate I really don't care how bad  his offense is so long as he can play D.

Cowart could take on John McDonald's role by replacing Freese in the 9th for defensive purposes. We could really use a good defensive 3B late in games, so I don't really care about his hitting.

In September, sure. But there'll never be room for a defensive specialist back up 3B who can't play SS on a 25 man roster. We're only carrying three or four reserves these days and you obviously need guys who can cover every position. Having a reserve IF who can't play SS really doesn't help.
