Joyce is going to get the ax tomorrow. (My guess)

It's relevant because 30 year olds who aren't hurt just don't lose their skill to this extent. There are 150 years worth of baseball to support this idea.

Yeah, Joyce has been terrible. So was Ibañez. But all that matters when it comes to roster decisions is what a player will do in the future.

Joyce's chances of being better in the future are miles better than Ibañez's chances were at this point last year.

Joyce has already gotten better. It's just that his start was so bad the overall numbers still don't look good. I'm pretty sure over the last 5-6 weeks he's got a higher OBP than Carlos Perez.

Month of June for Joyce. 9-52 0hrs 1RBI

A lampshade can produce more than Joyce at this point.

If he had a hot start, we'd be calling him the Led Zeppelin right now. Sucked in April. Sucks in June.

With so many issues, it's pretty funny that Joyce is "our" scapegoat. Releasing Joyce won't do a thing other than create another hole. Who are we going to replace him with? Cowgill? Marte? Robertson?

Our roster is what it is, and what it is is mediocre. Last season was great, but when looking at this team's performance over the last 5-6 years, last season looks more like the outlier than the norm. And if the current regime views last season as indicative of what this team is, then we are in big trouble.

We need to make moves, but not for this season. I'm not wild about our draft, but we aren't going to get instantly better through the draft. IMO, the FO completely bungled a golden opportunity to make this team a lot better a lot quicker through the international market. Could have added depth to the farm and put guys in the system that, if not ready to immediately produce, would be soon. For whatever reason, that didn't happen. So now we have to do that through trades--deal CJ, Santiago, Freese, Smith--anyone that will allow us to get younger; heck, deal Richards if you can land some big, close to ML ready prospects. Don't rush Skaggs. Get Trope and Heaney some experience this season. Get Kubitza in the lineup at 3b. Lets see what Newcomb has later in the season. Get these young guys some ML run and prepare this team to compete next season.

If we keep down this current track of chasing our tail trying to compete every season with a roster that just simply isn't good enough, we will look back in 8 years wondering how we pissed away the prime years of potentially one of the best players ever. We don't need to rebuild but we do need to look ahead.

Joyce had a decent-ish May.  In June, he's back down to .173/.295/.269.  Is that "better" than his April?  Yep.  Still stinks.  And there are certainly examples of guys who just lose it for seemingly no particular reason.  We're not talking about a Miguel Cabrera here, anyway.  We're talking about a guy who had a couple of okay seasons 3-4 years ago.

Exactly, fringe players like Joyce come and go all the time. Besides, even if we wait it out and he gets "hot", he'll still finish the year hitting .200 with single-digit homers. He's not a player worth waiting out.

Annnnnnnd we're still only 2.5 games out of the Wild Card. Not ready to give up on this season with 90 games to play.

Hold what you got!!

Go Halos!!

Steve Finley finally improved in September of his otherwise terrible season of 2005. Scioscia stuck with him the entire year. Joyce will be here for the duration.

 Don't rush Skaggs.

Skaggs wants to rush himself.

From MLBTR:

"Though the Angels said from the get-go that Tyler Skaggs wouldn’t pitch in 2015 following Tommy John surgery last August, the left-hander tells Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register that he thinks he can help the team this year. Skaggs said he’d be happy to pitch out of the bullpen if there’s no room in the rotation, though clearly whether or not he throws for the big league club in 2015 is not his decision to make. Fletcher writes that it might be more likely that Skaggs will pitch in the instructional league, if he pitches at all this year."
