Ability to hit a baseball out of the infield:

Matt Kemp: .506 SLG

Hamilton: .414 SLG

Can't even believe I'm having to defend Matt Kemp in a comparison to Josh Hamilton.

He had ankle surgery before the 2014 season, I get that. That affects his ability to run both on the basepaths and in the outfield. Kemp absolutely took off in the 2nd half of last season once healthy and hit 17 HR and had a .971 OPS.

Ankle issues or not, he is still an absolute train wreck in the outfield.

Would you guys consider moving Calhoun for one of the Reds starting pitchers?

I would absolutely move for Calhoun for a good young starter, but the Reds' starters don't have enough team control. I wouldn't move Calhoun for any pitcher without at least three years, and probably four, of club control.

What did you guys expect?!

Of course he's going to want that much and he's probably going to get it.

That's because owners have no negotiating skills. It's almost like they think they have to give the player whatever he asks for or feels he is worth, not merely beat the other offers. Edited by wopphil

Mets Discussing Dillon Gee With Rangers, Others

By Mark Polishuk [December 9, 2014 at 9:31pm CST]

9:31pm: Up to six teams are interested in Gee, MLB Network Radio’s Jim Duquette reports (hat tip to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News).

8:54pm: The Mets and Rangers are discussing a possible trade that would send right-hander Dillon Gee to Texas, FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi reports (Twitter link). The Rangers were said to be preparing to talk to the Mets about Gee (and Jon Niese) yesterday. While the two sides have talked, however, “nothing is close on that front,” according to The Record’s Matt Ehalt (Twitter link).

With the Rangers looking for rotation upgrades and the Mets shopping their veteran arms, the two teams seem like a good match as trade partners. Gee is a Texas native and played his college ball in Arlington, so a trade to the Rangers would be a virtual homecoming for the 28-year-old. MLBTR’s Matt Swartz projects Gee will earn $5.1MM in 2015 via his second trip through the arbitration process, and he’s controllable through the 2016 season. Gee has posted a 3.91 ERA, 2.26 K/BB rate, 6.5 K/9 and 45.6% grounder rate over his 639 2/3 career innings (all with the Mets).
