Angels sign Cuban IFer Roberto Baldoquin

And I still haven’t figured out which take was worse !

It’s absolutely the Baldoquin take.  He made that based on whatever he saw in those videos against other competition that was unknown.  Versus Kubitza against more known talent and a much bigger availability of video to watch, or at least the ability to watch a minor league game or two.

One scout believes Roberto Baldoquin is already MLB ready at SS. "He would immediately become Aybar's replacement if there's an injury."

I sure hope this scout was fired.

Well, to be fair, there was no reason not to trust the Angels scouting at that point. But yeah, the facepalm is for me.

Oh?  The three drafts prior to his signing weren't a clue?   The knowledge that it was taking them out of any future signings for a guy NOBODY saw as anything other than meh wasn't reason enough for pause?    No facepalm for you or anyone that was excited about this, it was 100% on the brain trust in charge at the time.

we each have our own levels of accountability.  you are better at this so you should have disrupted that signing session somehow.  I guess that makes it your fault.  😉

I don't like you.  You are mean.

Thanks, Jerry!

BS aside... re-reading this I totally get why everyone was so geeked.  The Angels had been absent from the international game, Cubans were all the rage -- teams were having success left and right with those signings but holy schnikes was this an epic fail by the front office.

I just remember being completely aghast when it went down.

Actually, in reading through this from the OP on....i was pleasantly surprised to read so much skepticism and negativity to the signing at the time.  Well done for the most part AW.

Of course the ever optimistic Mr. positivity himself Chuck chimed in to offset some of the negativity lol (specifically about the warning track power).  No diss to you Chuck -- i was once that way before time/age made me bitter (hahaha) about the Angels.

Sigh.  This is so over, it's stupid.

Every team has misses like this.

Maybe not every team had all misses for the time the Angels did.  Okay, fine.  But that time period ended when we signed Ohtani.  You forgot Ohtani was an international signing, didn't ya?

Rehashing Baldoquin at this point is pathetic.
