Ibanez at DH is not the worst idea, but I think we need someone who can also play 1b to help out Pujols. I would have liked to see Garrett Jones but he is off the board. My vote would be for Lyle Overbay.

I'd like to see the Angels go after a 5th outfielder who can DH rather than a 1B/DH guy.

 

We only have 4 OF on the roster right now. Kendrick, Calhoun and Conger have all spent some time playing 1B. Kendrick has spent some time in LF but I think 1B is the easier position to play.

Chavez is the way to go. Ibanez had a .240 ish average and a .300 OBP.

 

Chavez was .281 / .332 / .478 in his first year in the NL. Used to being part time, 80 games last year.

 

His WAR was low, because they take away a ton for defense, which he really can't play anymore. He's okay.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Angels throw a buy low offer at Delmon Young.   Dude signed for 750K last year, so he can be had for cheap IMO.

 

Yes he's considered a bust -- but he's a career 98 OPS hitter who according to a few people I know are saying he's lost 20 pounds and spent the winter busting his ass.   If he's willing to take 1-2 mil, I'd offer him that deal right now.   I'd also be looking at every possible 6th year FA who showed any semblance of a bat.

 

AL Average DH last year -- .244/.323/.402.   It's not the 90s anymore.

Signing Ibanez means that the Angels pitchers do not have to face him.

Ibanez like he always does against the Angels hit .313/.389/.625/1.014 against them in 2013(career OPS .899 vs Angels).

 

Even if he puts up only a .750 to .800 OPS the Angel pitchers wont have to face him anymore.

Was there any actual talk of Butler for Kendrick or was that just a scenario someone on here came up with? I'd love to see that happen.  Dude had a down year last year and still put up numbers better than Kendrick does most years.  And he's only 27.  Plus it would allow Green to play fuil time who I would way rather see in the lineup than Shuck.
