Price goes off on Twitter

Recommended Posts

Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price, the reigning Cy Young Award winner in the American League, took to Twitter to bash his perceived critics after he took the loss against the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 of the AL Division Series on Saturday, singling out two TBS network commentators as "nerds."

Dirk Hayhurst...COULDNT hack it...Tom Verducci wasn't even a water boy in high school...but yet they can still bash a player...SAVE IT NERDS

— David Price (@DAVIDprice14) October 6, 2013

Price muttered the same insult -- mild by the cultural norm of the clubhouse -- as he walked away from reporters questioning him after Saturday's game at Fenway Park.

"Sweet questions, nerds," he said.

Price also tweeted his credentials as a star in college and the big leagues.

"No, you forgot CLEAN sweep of every college award...Never been Done," Price tweeted, adding in another tweet that he had won the Cy Young Award.

More good stuff from his girlfriend

"Convinced that there must be a written rule that in order to be a Red Sox fan, you have to be a complete and utter POS. Wow!" Nicole tweeted during Game 1.

She later tweeted that fans sitting nearby were taunting players' children and throwing trash.

Reactionary. It's what happens when social media is at your finger every second of the day. Probably regrets saying those things. But probably was pissed off when typing these things after a bad performance. People and athletes should take a day cool down after instead of posting on emotion alone.

Price comes off looking really bad. I guess he thinks the media should only praise him and and never criticize his play when he pitches poorly in a big game.

Meh...  I thought it was pretty tame.  Ted Williams made much more cutting comments in his wars with the "Knights of the Press Box" as he used to call them.

By the way, as far as Price's logic that only accomplished professional athletes should criticize his performance(and I certainly haven't seen anything that Hayhurst or Verducci, who as a side note, was NOT a water boy, but was a pretty good baseball/basketball player in HS and then walked onto a spot on Penn State's baseball team, said that was out of line):

Dirk Hayhurst: 39.1 (crappy) big league innings pitched

Joe Maddon: Career ended as a 25 year old catcher that never got past A ball and posted a .695 OPS

Rays' pitching coach Jim Hickey: Spent his entire pro career between the Astros, Dodgers, and White Sox minor league systems. Was a pretty mediocre reliever who didn't miss bats for the majority of that time.

Tweeting whatever pops into one's head has got to be the most idiotic thing one can do.
