I expected more from Hamilton, but in some ways Trumbo's is more disconcerting. He's had some really bad slumps over the last seasons just when I hoped he'd prove more than a homerun or nothing type player.

Someone called into Angel Talk and said Hamilton uses the heaviest bat in MLB. Is that true? If so, that could explain his weak swings on so many pitches.

Do we even have a hitting coach anymore, or anyone available to talk some sense into Hamilton??

Do the players even listen to the coaches and/or manager??

What Shane said - Hamilton and its not even close. Hamilton is a former MVP, a guy that has a lifetime OPS close to .900 and is a legit .290+ BA, 30+ HR hitter. Trumbo, on the other hand, hasn't established a level higher than an OPS in the .750-.800 range, despite 30 HR. Hamilton should be a star, while Trumbo is more of an above average regular. If we accept that about Trumbo, then not only are his slumps more acceptable, but he loses the ridiculous "untouchable" value that some fans and seemingly the Angels front office view him as erroneously having.

Wow, did somebody really use RBIs as a key measurement tool for talent? I though we were past that. The Earth isn't flat too.

RBI's is a big deal ... always has been and always will be.

Try playing the game inside the lines rather than outside the lines.

Right now, Trumbo is Trumbo. But Hamilton is not Hamilton.

Trumbo is in a bit of a slump, but can still knock the ball. Hamilton is doing the same, but was expected to do a lot more.

RBIs only matter to fantasy baseball. Name one front office outside of Ruben Amaro that actually believes RBIs is a useful stat to evaluate talent.

Offensively, Trumbo is average compared to other 1B/DH's. He has above average power, but below average OBP.  I hope he has a "dead cat bounce" towards the end of the year, so the Angels can get decent value for him in a trade.

I was under the impression that Alfonso Soriano had the heaviest bat in baseball.

Then again we all know that Kelvim Escobar used to "swing the biggest stick." (wink wink)

Hamilton is arguably one of the worst players in major league baseball this year.  Especially considering his salary.  Couple that with his history of being one of the best players in baseball and it's a done deal.  He is one of the biggest catastrophic train wreck grease fire disasters in the history of baseball.

Trumbo is cheap, somewhat productive and hopefully nets us a decent starting pitcher in the offseason.
