I asked this before.  How can anyone really know about his defense outside of the professional scouts.  Its not like we see him play on TV.  I know few of you actually follow minor league baseball so to fully know the defensive ability of someone else farm product puzzles me?

Just look at his defensive metrics, they are bad.  Also, A's reporters saying he has a bad glove.

 

Not like Callaspo was a wizard with the glove either.

Great trade. Green is a former first round draft pick - picked before Trout in the 2009 draft.

 

The Angels shed about $6M more, too.

Bottom line.  Maybe he sticks, maybe he doesn't.  He may be better than Callaspo right now, though.

I read the story about his bad defense.  I guess there maybe some validity there.  However, judging his defense on a short major league experience is unfair.  

 

As for his defensive metrics, I never trust them.  I believe defensive metrics has Trout as barely replaceable.  Defense is too difficult quantify with stats.  You really have to observe the play to judge someone's defense.

I'm almost positive Alfredo Griffin can and will work with him. Which is more than if he was a pitcher and we were talking about Butcher.

 

 

It's not like Griffin knows more about fielding than Gallego.

 

I think he's alright, but nothing special at d and that probably wont change.

 

Even if Green sucks (which he won't) the Angels won this trade.

MLB has Green ranked as the A's #3 top prospect.  He just missed the top 100 MLB prospect list.  Still, he's probably within the top 120.  Not too shabby.
