Callaspo Traded for A's Grant Green

Great trade. Green is a former first round draft pick - picked before Trout in the 2009 draft.

 

The Angels shed about $6M more, too.

I think many of us might be overrating Green. Sounds like he is horrible defensively, with some serious swing flaws.

Fangraphs thinks the Angels will try him at 3B. Of course if the Angels trade Kendrick, they'll try him at 2B first.

I think he's being overrated because of the "he's not Callaspo" factor.

They already have a 3B (Donaldson). They tried Green at 2B a few weeks ago and his defense was terrible. They plan to use Callaspo at 2B. They need someone to help them now and they think Callaspo will be more help in the playoff race.

also, people thought AK and Howie would be average defensively and they turned out to be a bit better than that.  They say Green is athletic so that's a good start.  If he's capable at 2b or 3b or even at 1b/OF, then he makes any one of Bourjos, Trumbo, and Kendrick expendable.  If Calhoun can play, then two of them can be moved for pitching.  Maybe aybar too if the deal is right.  We can suck it up with Romine for a year or two till someone else is ready.

So this allows Dipoto to trade Aybar tomorrow right?
