He’s the guy that said angels should trade ohtani, rendon and devinkski to the Mets for a prospect haul. He also managed the ASStros when they were in the middle of their string of number one picks.

all he has to do now is hold peoples Batting gloves and elbow pads. Welcome aboard Bo.

The Anthony Rendon comeback season in 2024 is on deck.

That might be an under the radar thing that could actually matter…Rendon might not be salvageable but why not hire a 1b coach, with ties to the manager, who Rendon has a good relationship with. Porter can’t keep him healthy but he might keep his head on straight.

Who

Oakland's pitching coach '04-'10, Boston for a year, then back to Oakland '12-'17. Two years with San Fran and left when Bochy left.

The good? He was around a lot of Oakland's best years, but also hasn't had a real titled coaching position for a few years, so could be a sign he's a little less analytically-oriented (see Percival's comments)

Johnny Washington interview for Angels manager a couple seasons back, was a minor leaguer in Texas' system in the Ron Washington days I think.

Oakland was finding decent pitching under rocks then. This could be a good hire.

Bo Porter might have been a poor manager, but perhaps he’ll be another good guy to have around the youth. He was Houston’s manager when guys like Altuve, Martinez, Springer, Keuchel and Castro were starting their careers.

Couple that with the Bo Porter Academy, MLBPA experience, analyst work, he’s at worst probably a positive, communicative-focused guy who will work well with Washington. The affect may be less seen between the lines and more between the ears of our youngsters. And maybe Rendon.

Like @Inside Pitch said, he’s a 1B coach. He won’t have a massive impact on in-game results or decisions.
