It’s a fancier title that teams use to poach personnel in other orgs. May or may not come with a pay raise, depending on the org.

Johnny Washington was an assistant hitting coach with the Cubs, so they had to offer him a promotion (hitting coach) to get him.

Tim Laker probably wasn’t leaving the Dodgers as MiLB Hitting Coordinator only to be an assistant hitting coach. So they give him the offensive coordinator title.

I think in general an “offensive coordinator” deals with scouting reports from opposing pitchers and a hitting coach deals more with swing mechanics. But there is obviously some overlap.

Are they also gonna hire an assistant hitting coach or will Laker & Washington be the two hitting guys (just with different tiles)?

Nope.

Wash himself said he was trying to get Clint Hurdle to be bench coach, but it’s been like 10 days and still nothing.

Makes me think they hit a snag on that target.

Yeah, the initial list had them targeting Chili Davis for hitting coach as well, and that didn't happen either, although unlike Hurdle I don't know if it was ever officially confirmed if they actually pursued Chili.
