Angels trade Brandon Marsh to the Phillies for Logan O'Hoppe

We were leading the majors in strikeouts.  Number 1 at something!  With Marsh gone, we'll likely miss out on that title as well.

It's a good trade, but it's just a little strange. O'Hoppe having an impact on 2023 is unlikely, Marsh at least stood a chance.

Just feels like we should be selling a little more if we're making a trade like this.

Marsh was supposed to be a big part of the future. I'd kind of chalked up this year to "he's young"

 

If this organization has given up hope on him already, that's pretty telling... and depressing that he was so high in our system

Not a huge fan of catcher prospects as a whole, but O'Hoppe is a top 100 guy and is having a good year in double-A and is close to MLB ready. WOuldn't be surprised if the Angels brought him up and let him get some AB's down the stretch this season

I hope they keep him in the minors at least through next September so he doesn't get rushed and turn into a 33%+ K guy like Marsh. No real reason to promote him early given where the team is

Desperately need a 2nd catcher who can supplant Stassi after a year or so.  O’Hoppe may well be that guy.

Quero may still be 3 years away.

This move leaves Trout in Center (not a good idea) and allows Adell to be an every day outfielders.  This means they are also sold on Ward as an everyday RFer.

Good hitting catchers are incredibly hard to find. Outfielders are common. This is a good trade.

Our Outfield defense is now beyond terrible and I doubt Trout will be in CF anymore. 

Not impossible to fix in an offseason, but hope there is an actual plan.

Adams is a few years away still.

Adell is a CF.
