Angels trade Brandon Marsh to the Phillies for Logan O'Hoppe

This trade makes perfect sense in a value standpoint yet still confuses the hell out of me at the same time.

Wow, I was expecting a trade but not Marsh.  I LOVE this trade.  Marsh is a glove first light hitting corner outfielder that strikes out 35% of the time. Those are a dime a dozen.  Mrash is literally a younger Juan Legares with more strikeouts.  O'Hoppe could turn into a poor man's Will Smith.  Stassi seems to be a bust at this point, so it doesn't hurt to light a fire under his ass by trading for O'Hoppe, plus if this means Suzuki is not coming back next season that's even better.  This is a total win by the Angels.

Marsh (IMO) will flourish under different coaching.  We cannot develop a player to save our lives.

I've been a Marsh fan... Love watching him on D, but his struggles at the plate aren't too encouraging... He was starting to feel like Bourjos...

 

I like that we got some good value at a premium position for a young guy that doesn't look to be panning out...

He's the #50 ranked prospect on Fangraphs in all of baseball.

So I'm told O'Hoppe is a guaranteed big league starting catcher. While there's debate regarding his hit tool, his defense won't slump. 

My guess is he's Chris Iannetta.

I would have agreed prior to him getting hurt. He's now out for all of 2023 and even though TJS is more common these days, there's still a risk there

I think our best shot at doing something is 2024 so I like this trade.....but we need more pieces.  We till have almost two hours to get something for Thor....and any other player that someone will take.  We need more pieces.

When was the last time this team had a decent catching prospect, wasn't it Conger?  Catching prospects are just so rare.  As previously, mentioned, a good outfield that strikeouts 35% of the time are a dime a dozen.

I'll say this... a few years back I asked on here if anyone would be good with trading Adell for someone less upside but a position of need, like a prospect C or SS. And everyone said no.

I have no idea if this is a good move or not, but, it's been years since we had an in-house catcher who was worth much, and thr ones we've gone out and gotten haven't been great.

I'm still stumped because I thought Marsh was supposed to be good. But I think replacing him will be easier than C.... simply because there aren't many worth a shit that are ever available
