As soon as he turns down our best offer then you consider trading him.  By the way he will sign an extension and I am not at all worried about retaining him.

If Ohtani tells the team he’s not interested in an extension, perhaps because things remain status quo , then by all means get the best trade deal.  The best way to make sure he stays is to win, of course.  As in make the playoffs and win some games.  Just add another four quality players (one of each of SP, RF, SS and C).

We’re going to have these threads constantly until he signs a new contract or gets traded. It’ll be similar to Trout signing with the Yankees/Phillies, and it’s going to suck nonstop until that moment.

I don’t get why so many want to even think about this happening instead of focusing on the season before us.

That would make sense and will be easier if there is a season.

The Mets will prob offer him a record breaking contract if he waits. If I’m Ohtani I try to get $400-500M since Cohen has an unlimited budget.

If he stays here and he gets paid anywhere near his true value the team’s payroll is gonna be tied down for the next decade and we are still going to be mediocre most likely since we are so top heavy with injury prone stars and a bad farm system.

With the Mets/Dodgers he knows he can get paid what he’s worth and the team will still add whatever it takes to win.

A year ago some were viewing him as a bust.  Arm wasn't ready, bat took a step back.  Ohtani is a case study in trusting the process, and the talent.

It’s hard to trust the process when we’ve been hurt so many times. I’d say it was understandable to be skeptical of Ohtani after all his injuries.
