This isn't Ohtani news or anything but the below tweet reminded me of the Japan Times piece they did on us with the arrival of Hideki Matsui back in 2010.

I would like to pay tribute to your contributions to the Angels fan activities.

Hideki Matsui was watching an MLB game in the late 1980s when he was in junior high school, and was a fan of Oakland with Bash Brothers at that time.  After he graduated from high school, he played for NPB since 1993.  The Tokyo Yomiuri Giants he belonged have been consistently popular since the founding of professional baseball in Japan, so he became the most famous hitter in Japan at that time, both in name and reality.
Around the same time, Ichiro wasn't getting as much attention as his prominent records, as he belonged to another less popular league in NPB.

Matsui was called 'Red Godzilla' by the Japanese fans and media when he moved to the Angels. Unfortunately, he was past his heyday and couldn't contribute much to the Angels.

He is currently cooperating in activities to popularize baseball and softball among African youth.

The large difference in hitting environment, especially for a left handed hitter,  when coming from the Yankees to the Angels in 2010 meant you couldn't expect the same numbers as before but he was still very good in his season with the Angels

At the 'Uroko House' in Kobe City, the annual Santa Clause is displayed. This old western-style building has a distinctive facade that looks like 'Uroko', means fish scales in Japanese.

This year, Santa Claus wears a coat with imitating the 'Ohtani T-Shirt Full Of Faces' to celebrate the MVP, will be displayed until Christmas Day.

The 'map of page by state' reminds me of the 'Ohtani T-shirt.'
