I think the important thing is that they just swept the Astros. No negatives can exist in that

This is going to be a very deep draft and it is also going to be a draft with a lot less information to go on. I'm guessing there will be a lot more busts in the early rounds and a lot more underrated guys taken in later rounds. The key is simply going to be getting it right. There are going to be great players available throughout. If anything this is probably the worst year to have a high pick.

this is as good a place and time as any other to chime in on this. i feel like those should have some definition on what they mean.

for me:

heart is your standard like this post. posts that contribute to discussion, regardless if you agree or not.

cat is for posts that are seemingly disconnected or oddly irrelevant.

picard/face palm is for genuinely stupid posts.

trophy is like the perfect summation post. the one you absolutely agree with. "thanks" is so out of place with this one.

the rest are self evident.

To be fair, this team isn't as bad as the Pirates and Red Sox so there really was not shot at getting Rocker.

A team with Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon, and David Fletcher was never going to be one of the worst two teams over a season.  We had some incredible bad luck and some very poor performances along the way, but it'd be hard for them to be this bad over a full season.

Five games ago the Angels were in last place, behind the Rangers and the Mariners. Fast forward to today after the Angels swept a four game series from the Astros, a team that has been devastated by injuries to their pitching staff. The Angels starting pitching has been good over the last two times through the rotation while the bullpen couldn’t get anyone out. The bats awoke and the Angels scored a lot of runs the last week, especially against the Astros whose bullpen is as bad as the Angels. In the previous thirty seven games the starting pitching and bullpen had been pretty bad. I would be willing to bet that the 37 game Angels is more representative of the team than the last five games.  They are still a very iffy ball club.

We're in a weird place right now. It's very unlikely we make the playoffs, but at this point it's probably more likely than us getting a top 3 pick.

It's typical. They'll get hot enough to miss the playoffs by a few games and end up with the 12th pick or something.

They'll win just enough games to keep Eppler's job and provide just enough confidence to stay the course with the same approach next year.

No. It's more like, it's better to date the ugly chick who eats healthy and works out every day than to date the hot chick who stuffs her face with fast food and sits on the couch all day.
