CHINA

People keep saying we can't reduce China's influence on us because we buy so many things produced there. I'm saying we don't have to continue producing everything there... things can be made elsewhere. Corporations have moved production to China because of reduced costs associated with terrible labor conditions and non-existent environmental regulation. These costs are ultimately burdened by all of us (see climate change / increasing Chinese power) in ways that aren't easy to quantify but very real.

Not to sound like an asshole, but being that we buy so much from them because of cheap labor.... couldnt we find other less developed countries to exploit? Not like there arent options for it.

We need to find the kids from that underground mine in the Temple of Doom. Those skinny little shits could probably fire out iPhones at a record pace.

Right? This is actually what the Chinese are doing with their belt & road initiative. They are laying the foundations of their inevitable switch to a service economy by building infrastructure in Africa. All those jobs we outsourced to Chinese companies will be re-outsourced to Africa, with the Chinese middle men taking a cut.

I have been hearing about this also. China investing heavy into Africa for the natural resources.

Here is the problem.  There are 1.3 billion people in China.  It's almost a necessity for them to provide the cheap labor to feed their people.

Only India can really match China in manpower, and they are too busy being our telemarketers.

So it's not one country we need to exploit but multiple countries.  Vietnam is a choice, and already some companies have moved there like Samsung.  But we are talking a country of 95 million.  Mexico would be an obvious one.  But it just seems to be getting expensive there.  Other Latin American countries would do, but they are too unstable.  South America seems to be getting big with food, but not manufacturing.  China might have the right idea of exploiting Africa, but again, stability is a big factor.

Yep. The Chinese have been moving on Africa for years and years now. The Russians too are quietly trying to establish there.

Luckily the locals make fun of asians there, so we might be able to use that in our favor.
