China jeers as George Floyd protests sweep U.S.

"I can't breathe," wrote Hua Chunying, a spokeswoman of China’s Foreign Ministry — a reference to words uttered by Floyd as he lay pinned down by police.

China's state media has been quick to resurface a comment by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2019, when she called pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong "a beautiful sight to behold."

China's Global Times newspaper, seen as a mouthpiece for the Communist Party, ran an editorial on Saturday entitled: "Watch out! 'Beautiful sight' in HK is spreading across the U.S."

Editor Hu Xijin compared the two situations in the column, writing that it was "as if the radical rioters in Hong Kong somehow snuck into the U.S."

"Let's wait and see which country will encounter more chaos," he wrote.

In a tweet on Saturday, Hu also urged President Donald Trump not to "hide" behind Secret Service officers after the president thanked them for maintaining their cool as protesters converged near the White House.

"Go to talk to demonstrators seriously," Hu said. "Negotiate with them, just like you urged Beijing to talk to Hong Kong rioters."

Beijing says will take ‘whatever measures necessary’ to defend Chinese firms added to US entity list

Quote

China will take “whatever measures are necessary” to defend the interests of Chinese enterprises in response to Washington’s restrictions on an additional 33 Chinese firms and institutions the Ministry of Commerce said on Friday,

the same day the new controls took effect.

China “firmly opposes” the move by the United States to add those Chinese companies and government organisations to its “entity list”, the ministry said, urging the US “to immediately stop these wrong practices”.

Inclusion on the entity list will restrict US companies from doing business with these firms without the specific authorisation of the US government.

From U.S. to Japan, Lawmakers Unite to End 'Naive' China Strategy

Quote

Lawmakers across multiple nations have announced the launch of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC)—a body seeking a fresh "strategic approach" to issues related to China.

The group, which includes U.S. Sens. Marco Rubio and Bob Menendez, has been set up to work "towards reform on how democratic countries approach China," according to its website. Lawmakers from the U.K., Australia, Canada, Japan, the European Union, Germany, Sweden, and Norway are also involved, with more nations to be represented soon as additional politicians sign up.

"Yes, these are going to be tough decisions, but they have to be taken now," he said. "Because the further down the road we allow this to slide, the more dependent we become and the more difficult this decision will be to make."

The magnitude of the change requires multinational cooperation, Smith said. "No single country can do this alone." Collaboration may help soften the blow of decoupling with China, to whatever extent that is possible. "Governments need to say there are strategic areas where, frankly, we cannot be in the hands of the Chinese."

Butikofer said no one is picking a fight with Beijing, but instead lawmakers are "standing up for our own interests and our values." He said EU politicians want China to allow a level playing field for European firms and end state-directed economic nativism.

This is a really good article discussing the growing global movement to 'decouple' from China. This represents the first move towards a unified, global response to Beijing's bullshit.

U.S. senator Scott says China trying to sabotage vaccine development

Quote

LONDON (Reuters) - The United States has evidence China is trying to slow down or sabotage the development of a COVID-19 vaccine by Western countries, Republican senator Rick Scott said on Sunday.

“We have got to get this vaccine done. Unfortunately we have evidence that communist China is trying to sabotage us or slow it down,” he said during an interview on BBC TV.

“China does not want us ... to do it first, they have decided to be an adversary to Americans and I think to democracy around the world.”

Asked what evidence the United States had, Scott declined to give details but said it had come through the intelligence community.

“This vaccine is really important to all of us getting our economy going again. What I really believe is whether England does it first or we do it first, we are going to share. Communist China, they are not going to share.”

Zoom shuts account of US-based rights group after Tiananmen anniversary meeting

Quote

Zoom temporarily closed a US account of activists who met to mark the anniversary of China’s Tiananmen Square crackdown, raising alarm about free speech on the fast-growing video-meeting service.

US-based rights campaigners turned to Zoom, which has become a way of life for many people during the coronavirus lockdown, to connect more than 250 people to remember Beijing’s crushing of the pro-democracy uprising on 4 June, 1989.

Zoom acknowledged it had shut down and restored the account after the attention. “Just like any global company, we must comply with applicable laws in the jurisdictions where we operate,” a Zoom spokesperson said.

“When a meeting is held across different countries, the participants within those countries are required to comply with their respective local laws.

The activists voiced outrage, saying the company may have been under direct pressure from China’s communist leaders.

“If so, Zoom is complicit in erasing the memories of the Tiananmen massacre in collaboration with an authoritarian government,” Humanitarian China said in a statement.

It was unclear how the Indian soldiers had died, but a senior military official said that some were beaten to death with sticks embedded with nails in a high-altitude clash that didn’t involve shooting.

U.S. senators question meatpackers over exports to China during pandemic

Quote

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Two prominent U.S. Senate Democrats are pressing America’s top meatpackers to disclose by month’s end how much pork, beef and chicken they shipped to China during the coronavirus outbreak while warning of possible meat shortages at home.

Quote

Such companies exported 112,327 tonnes of U.S. pork to China in April, more than any previous month and up 257% from a year earlier, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data.

The exports raise questions about why U.S. meat prices soared during the pandemic and President Donald Trump in April ordered slaughterhouses to stay open to protect the nation’s food supply, Warren and Booker said in a letter to Tyson, JBS, Smithfield and Cargill Inc this week.,

Reuters reported on May 11 that Trump, a Republican, was facing criticism from some lawmakers, consumers and plant employees for putting workers at risk in part to help ensure China’s meat supply.

I'm surprised the dems are going after Tyson. That company made the Clintons' a fortune with their crooked stock schemes.

It's interesting because the dems have thus far distanced themselves from the anti-China talk because they'd rather criticize Trump. This is a sign that being tough on China is becoming a bi-partisan issue... which is shocking considering that both parties are in the pocket of economic interests that have gona all in on China's economy.

Satellite imagery shows China building up military presence in Galwan Valley days after deadly clash with India

New satellite imagery from the disputed border area of the Himalayas between China and India shows evidence that China has been building up its military presence after a clash there that left 20 Indian troops dead earlier this month.

Both countries' military commanders agreed to disengage their forces in the Galwan Valley region in the territory of Ladakh after the June 15 attack. But recent images from June 22 show new Chinese bunkers, tents and storage units that weren't previously there in earlier in the month, Reuters reported.
