U.S. Warns Its Citizens in China They Risk ‘Arbitrary’ Arrest

Quote

The State Department warned U.S. citizens living in or traveling to China they may face arbitrary arrest, the latest sign of deteriorating relations between Washington and Beijing.

“Exercise increased caution in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) due to arbitrary enforcement of local laws for purposes other than maintaining law and order,” State said in a travel advisory on its website that was also emailed to U.S. citizens registered as being in China. “This arbitrary enforcement may include detention and the use of exit bans.”

The warning, sent Saturday morning U.S. time, says that Chinese security forces may “detain and/or deport” American citizens for “sending private electronic messages critical of” China’s government.

“U.S. citizens may be detained without access to U.S. consular services or information about their alleged crime. U.S. citizens may be subjected to prolonged interrogations and extended detention for reasons related to ‘state security,’” the warning added.

Bye, bye, Huawei. Boris is pulling the plug.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered Huawei equipment to be purged completely from Britain’s 5G network by 2027, risking the ire of China by signalling that the world’s biggest telecoms equipment maker is no longer welcome in the West.

Think about this.  With a population of 1.39 billion, China's espionage unit could easily be greater than the population of Calolfornia at 39.5 million.  That would be less than 3% of their population.

Yeah but I think @Spirit would notice the huge spike in vehicular violence.

Merlin, do you ever once think, before you hit the post button, is what you have really information or a compulsive need?

Merlin is just keeping his pitching arm ready for the next offseasons rumors, trades, and signings.   With how the Rona is going, that should be in a few weeks.

Reuters: China says those who see China as hostile are wrong

Quote

“Those who see China as systematic rival or as a potentially hostile state have got it all wrong - they have chosen the wrong target and they are heading in the wrong direction,” Ambassador Liu Xiaoming told the Centre for European Reform.

“China has never interfered in other countries’ internal affairs and we strongly oppose interference in China’s internal affairs by any country,” he said, adding that the security law had been “warmly welcomed by Hong Kong residents”.

The problem is, China sees everything in their hemisphere as their "internal affairs." They claim the entire south china sea, Taiwan, a bunch of Japanese islands, Tibet, portions of India, a bunch more.
