MLS just got suspended this morning, joining the NBA. Over in Europe, La Liga and Serie A are also suspended (and Bundesliga will likely follow soon, as there has been at least one confirmed case in a lower league of German soccer; the NHL over here in the US likely will follow soon as well).. Its starting to look like baseball would stick out like a sore thumb if they DIDN'T suspend the season. Adding to that, we are having governments (including California's) starting to crack down on large gatherings, which means at BEST we are are going to have a lot of games in empty stadiums.

IMO at this point the question is when will they announce it, and will they shut down spring training immediately as well (you gotta think the answer there is "yes").

Out any sport MLB makes the most sense to cancel the whole season. The average fan age is an amazing 60 years old. You would have thousands of people dying each week after attending a game.

This will also give MLB more time to clean up their act. I doubt that the whole season will be cancelled but certainly April.

The warm temperatures can slow the transmission but it doesn't necessarily kill the virus.  The virus happily resides in an environment that averages 98 degrees Fahrenheit.

if you're referring to the human body. it doesn't actually correlate in that way. it's not the ambient temperature that kills viruses, excluding extreme temperatures, but rather it's direct sunlight and predominantly UV light.

That would change things. Not optimistic about that tho.

and that's exactly why i wouldn't cancel the entire season right now. start with april and then keep re-evaluating as you go.

right now there's a lot going on. this could be the high point of this virus. or it could peak a month or two from now. go slowly but wisely.

NHL hasn’t yet but expected to announce tonight they will. Shits getting weird.

It's not the high point right now because not nearly enough people in the US have been tested to get a true indication of the spread.  As the test kits start to roll out the trend is starting to spike badly.  In this country the number of tests as a percentage of the total population is one of the lowest in the world.  The countries that have tested a much higher percentage have many more cases.  Because you can feel perfectly fine doesn't mean you don't have Covid-19, and that is dangerous because you can still infect people who are more vunerable.
