I must admit, I have to applaud the "you guys are being selfish assholes that are not allowing me to be the selfish asshole that can't internationally travel".

Get it together guys. Throw in a vaccine with uncommon trials, sample sizes, data analysis and collections so that one of our own can travel.

I should probably start a betting pool for when the class actions start because this is being so hurried it's going to come out in a year that it combats something like asthma inhaler use or something random to where there will be those funny commercials with 800 numbers to call and add your name to the lawsuit list.

I have no real knowledge of how the hospital industry works but, in all seriousness, what is the normal ICU capacity at the peak of cold/flu season in a "normal" year?

Yeah, I heard a brief bit on the news yesterday.  One month, 77 patients.  Feds probably don't want to spend millions on another cry wolf situation, then still have the locals badmouth them for not doing anything.

One thing is a fact, I personally know a bunch of people that have it now. Thankfully it's coworkers and not family members. I've been taking all the precautions, including trying to keep my immune system strong, so maybe that's why I haven't got it yet.

I only know it because they run articles every day tracking total tests, positive cases, how many are hospitalized and of those how many are in ICU. Of those in ICU, what is the percentage of beds are taken. And of course deaths. I would assume that’s in every state with regards to the media tracking it but I could be wrong.

I don’t know about a normal flu season and the ICU capacity because there is not daily reporting on that. But again everything about this is politicized and it is something we have not gone through in a century. Which makes the situation more complicated.

The reason I ask is that I always thought many hospitals do not have an abundance of ICU beds to begin with because of the costs associated with having them. That leads me to believe that those beds being full is a common occurrence at any given time. I think you are right about this being so politicized that using ICU capacity is probably political with this virus at this point. Now if the ICU beds are being completely dominated by COVID patients then I can see why that is a problem for other illnesses and injuries that come up.

That's the problem with lumping whole regions together.  You have LA which is filled to capacity, and you have Riverside County where their ICU is at 20% capacity left and San Diego County has 19% capacity left.  But they are under the same strict guidelines.
