Took him long enough and he still has more to go.

After inking $8.5MM in guaranteed money from the Angels, Allen walked 17.2% of the batters he faced, a mark in the bottom 1% league wide. He has also given up considerable hard contact (54.5%) as opponents have barreled him up at a 15% clip while getting the ball up in the air more frequently (65.2 FB%). Opponents’ average exit velocity of 94.3 mph ranks Allen ahead of only Reed Garrett (94.7 mph) and Alex Cobb (94.9 mph). Hard hit fly balls have unsurprisingly led to a 20.9 HR/FB%, 3.52 HR/9 and 6.26 ERA.

The 30-year-old isn’t likely to be claimed, at which point he has the right to refuse a demotion and become a free agent. He’ll look to catch on somewhere, however, as he has no plans to retire, per Maria Torres of the LA Times (via Twitter). Given his fastball-reliant two-pitch arsenal, Allen will need to develop a new approach to remain viable at the big-league level. His four-seamer has slowed to an average 92.2 mph (from 93.5 mph last year and a career peak 96 mph in 2013), and though he’s become slightly-more invested in his curveball this season, usage rates were not considerably different than his career norms.

For the it's not my money people, horrible signings like these matter when the team is on a budget. Eppler has wasted a lot of money in FA trying to put together a major league team. He has had for years to put together a major league team and this has resulted in zero playoff appearances. He clearly needs help when it comes to the major league level. Sure LaStella, Goodwin, Puello and maybe Lucroy have worked out but those guys are cheap. If he is going to have his contract renewed, it will have to be in a co-GM situation.

I mean the jury is still out on the farm but he's done a much better job with it than in free agency. Yes, trades like Simmons and Upton have worked out but again, regarding free agency and putting together a major league ball club, he is just not very good at all.

Eppler needs to take heat this year; however I think a change will destabilize the Angel's.

So the highest paid reliever on a one year deal last offseason gets DFA'd in the middle of June...

$8.5 million.

Don't know how good pitchers can lose it so completely, but it happens all the time in baseball.

Joe Kelly is sporting a 7.59 ERA so his days with the Dodgers may be numbered.

At this point the Dodgers are on the hook for around $24 with the buyout if they DFA him. My guess he will get multiple IL visits before that happens.

Next, Cahill I hope followed by Harvey. I feel sorry for the other pen pitchers who have been way overused.

Total mistake of a signing that would have been a bigger mistake had they chosen to continue to keep him on the roster.   Harvey is likely next.

I think Cahill gets a shot in the bullpen....he’s had success there before....

So, would you rather they have Familia and his 3 year 30 mil contract and 6.91 ERA, 1.756 WHIP,  -0.8 bWAR?
Or Joe Kelly's 3 year 25 mil contract and 7.59 ERA, 1.781 WHIP, -0.9 bWAR?
How about Robertson's 2 year 23 mil 6 IP before going down with 2.100 WHIP.
Maybe Kelvin Herrera's 2 year 18 mil and 6.58 ERA, 1.654 WHIP, -0.4 bWAR

I know you think you made a point -- but you didn't.   The Angels made a mistake and punted.    The fact that it was a one year deal made it easier...

No, I would rather have Greg Holland ($3.25, 1.99 ERA, 0.3 fWAR), Jake Diekman ($2.75M, 4.76 ERA, 0.4 fWAR), or Shawn Kelley ($2.75M, 2.66 ERA, 0.2 fWAR).

Ok so guess right on one of the few guys who performed.  Hindsight might have helped you make that decision.  Maybe.

Sure you did --  you were all over signing two guys who had been released last year for being Cody Allen..   And no doubt you can link to your calling for Shawn Kelley to be signed.  BTW, I actually did want Shawn Kelley.  Dude's been an underrated RP for a long time.

When it's all said and done I'm just glad the Allen experiment is over -- never wanted the dude, or Harvey.

I wasn't calling for us to sign them.  I was calling for us to, if we were going to go dumpster diving, pay those pickups appropriately.  Us making Allen the highest paid reliever on a one year deal, and him making over twice as much as the third highest paid reliever, is my issue.
