What’s the point of having a pitcher who doesn’t pitch and only bats against RHP every now and then?  Seems like a waste of his talents.

My guess isn’t he point is he won’t always be injured.  So in the future if he isn’t a pitcher he will play more than just DH.  If he is a pitcher then what you saw earlier this year is what you will get, pitch once a week or so and DH 3 plus times a week.
