IGNORED

It's time to fire the trainers and pitching staff

I found the following reference in an article about Noah Syndergaard's latest injury. Reminded me of some of the sandbagging that we get from the Angels on injuries. These are from Emma Span's Twitter feed (Sports Illustrated):

Mets-to-English translations:

It just tightened up - debilitating degenerative illness

He's day-to-day - doctors think there's a chance they can save his leg

Back by the All Star break - authorities ask anyone who has had recent contact with this player to contact the nearest CDC quarantine station

Angels-to-English:

Recovery is on schedule, and there have been no setbacks - It will be at least two years before his name sees a lineup card again, and if he returns at all, he will never be the same.

The ball is coming out of his hand well - There is really nothing positive to say, so I made this up.

this is silly.  i don't think i've ever thought, in at least the last 10 years "man, the Angels are rolling the dice with this guy"  we just have fucking shitty luck.  Also, if i recall correctly when genius Jerry DiPoto acquired Skaggs, he had already had significant injury issues.

How about just being honest when a player is injured and say "We don't know the severity of the injury yet. We will update as soon as we get an idea of how long he will be out." No more of this 2 weeks BS and then finding out it's 3 months.

to be fair, its a different type of dynamic on the leg when one is running vs. skating.  but yea, its a crazy difference.  its a culture thing with hockey also. they make sure they're safe, but sometimes these guys are just dumb when they come back in the same game (hockey players)

I've wondered if something they do differently in training might prevent them from having high incidence of freak injurys, in 2006 Zumaya on Detroit went on DL for playing Guitar Hero.

I remember some years Howie Kendrick got hurt simply from routinely rounding the bases, pulled his hamstring I believe.

yea, i mean.  its definitely not just the types of motions, hockey obviously a game that is far more physical and absolutely just as physically demanding.  baseball players are babies compared to hockey players.  but thats true of just about any athlete vs. hockey players.

when you hear stuff about guys getting hurt playing video games tho.....that sort of makes me roll my eyes......sure he did.  The guy was doing something that would have violated the contract.  I think thats probably pretty common with some of these freak injuries that dont make any sense.

There really should be some form of urban dictionary thread for AW. Something the newbies can reference.

Ralston Schmidt, Clyde, turn the page, dehydration, coming out of his hand well, antigravity treadmill, day to day, self bans, old format, Rondons, LTBU, BSOHL, FTW, Nava, Jews, Borenstein's brother, Trout porn...

Why are Baseball players so fragile ?  Cam Fowler's knee probably still hurts extremely bad & he's playing. Its like if a MLBer has a thumb nail thats sore he's on the DL for a month.

MLBer breaks leg: out for 1.5 years (Kendrys Morales).

NHLer breaks leg: out for 6 weeks.

Albert broke his wrist in St Louis and was back in 15 days.
