Scotty, how do you read into that tweet by Dee Gordon?

I believe there's no such thing as coincidence. Turner's market is heating up and Dee congratulates him on the contract he's about to get.

Just a guess, but I'm thinking he'll sign in a very short period, or they're about to be reunited and Turner is headed to Miami. Either way, no coincidence, I think.

Turner is severely underrated, but the Angels are a longggggg ways from competing and he isn't going to change that. Why commit 60 + mil on a guy with a short-term window? It's not a losers mentality, or throwing in the towel to not be willing to do what needs to be done to compete. If it was a flyer on a guy then ok, take it, but that's a serious commitment suited for teams in win-mode that are a 3-5 win player (Turner) away from a shot at something bigger.

Save all the money you can and retool to have the best team on the field 2-3 years down the road.

I don't see how they fit him into their budget without exceeding the Luxury Tax threshold which I just don't think they will do. The Angels have approximately $21M-$25M left in Average Annual Value before hitting the current CBT threshold of $189M. If that CBT ceiling rises then they certainly do have more room but this seems like a real stretch.

Don't get me wrong I like Turner and I think he would impact defense and offense very well but it is a really big purchase which would simply be surprising.

The CBT may rise but Arte still won't spend more than he's comfortable with. I can see him dishing out $165M - $170M for 2017 and that's still a lot of money.

Josh Hamilton's contract still requires......

Arte really hasn't spent in three years now, which is both idiotic and understandable. That CBT is the line in the sand he won't cross even though he insists it isn't. But you could make the argument that this would be the year to do it. We exceed and 25 million comes off the payroll next year and the CBT likely increases by 10 million, which offers us just enough relief to offer lucrative extensions to Richards and Calhoun.
