The Official Los Angeles Angels 2017 Minor League Statlines & Prospects thread

This could have some implications but a couple to ponder and think about:

1) As part of a long-term future with having Shohei Ohtani on the team, the Angels could be placing more value on Jahmai as a multi-positional Ben Zobrist/Javier Baez/Brock Holt/Eduardo Nunez/Ian Happ (notice three of those names are on the Cubs?) type utility player

2) The Angels may (or may not this is just speculative) have received a lot of interest in Leonardo Rivas in potential trade talks either now or as part of potential discussions down the road that could possibly materialize at the trade deadline if the Angels are in contention or next off-season.

3) It could simply be a desire to create more utility and options for the future.

I like the idea and agree with @Dochalo and the report by Halos Heaven that Jones could make it at the keystone.

He's just such a good defender in CF, very solid. I never thought they'd do it because he's as good as he is out there. But it makes complete sense from a depth perspective.

With four top our top prospects playing in the OF, and three of them are 20 years old and younger, moving to 2B, which has long been a hole for us, is a smart move.

Looks like MLB.com has updated their Top 30.

And the M's farm system merry-go-round continues to go around and around and.....

Of their Top 30, fifteen of them have a projected ETA of 2018 and five are 2019...meaning basically anyone on their AAA team lands in their Top 30 almost by default.

It's crazy the amount of depth that we have build in the pitching department and including the fact that most of our young guys are a pitch, command or both away from rising thru the system.

Yeah it started coming along really quickly. I wonder what happened / which staff member changed that caused Soriano and Suarez to climb so high over the winter.

Arguably, any of the top 17 guys should see the majors at some point. I can't remember the last time the top half of our Top 30 looked so solid.

No Hunter Jr, that list blows!

If he plays well this year against older/tougher competition, he's going to climb the ranks really, really quickly. I can understand the skepticism for now from prospect pundits, but count me as a believer that Torii Jr. is going to become a legit prospect within the next year or two, and at minimum, a 4th OF in the bigs before all is said and done.

Meanwhile...

They are going to have some RPs bust through but sweet Jesus, it's incredible how he's decimated that system..

Their number 1 prospect hasn't been able to stay on the field in any one season and has started ST by being hurt....  again.  Their number two is basically Matt Thaiss with a better glove and the ability to move to the OF. only they chose to keep him in short season ball, whereas the Angels pushed Thaiss to Low A at the same age in his first season of pro ball..  The M's number three was shut down because of forearm flexor issues... Cannon arm but already injury concerns....  Their number four has yet to play a game as a professional..  Braden Bishop, their number 5 is basically Brennan Lund -- only Lund finsihed his age 22 season in AA whereas Bishop will start his age 24 season having never played above High A...

I will always wonder how different things could have been if Eppler had been hired in 2012 instead of Mr. Charisma.

Maybe it would have been worse. Perhaps Arte still forces a Pujols and Hamilton signing on the team. Things go south anyway and he isn't GM at the right time to fix the mess.

it speaks volumes that their #2 and #3 prospects are their first two picks from the 2017 draft.   We thought we'd end up with a lot of relievers too as sort of a fall back.  At least JD and company got Jahmai Jones, Barria, Hermosillo, Jose Suarez, Leo Rivas, and a couple others.  Newcomb got us Simmons.

He really is doing the exact same thing all over again to the M's.  He inherited a pretty bad system and proceeded to just annihilate it.

A. Dipoto likely would've traded Jones, Barria and Herm the first chance he got.

B. He inherited a pretty talented farm system and an 86 win team with money to spend with the Angels. That's a pretty good position to be in. The fact that he screwed it up speaks volumes.
