Lets get one thing straight..

Last year we were in the playoff race until the final series of the season. A lot of things went wrong for us last season, but the one thing that still rubs me the wrong way was Mike Trout's august.

 

It seems like nobody here wants to talk about it, but it's worth discussing. If he didn't totally disappear that month, we would have been in the playoffs. I'm not saying he had to have a 1.250 OPS that month like he did in June/July..but if he was just average in august..we easily make it to the wildcard game. He had a .680 OPS in august.

 

One things certain this year, Trout has to play well for us to even sniff the playoffs. And he has to play well consistently. We can't have our best player disappearing for an entire month offensively. Especially when mostly everybody else on our team is average to subpar offensively.

Hard to blame the guy that carried the team for a few bad weeks when others made  a season of it.  Cant seriously blame Trout for any of this teams failures in recent years

Yup, it was Mike Trout's absolutely horrendous August that caused us to not win the World Series in 2015. Can you believe it? His OPS+ was only 91! 91! That's like... 10% below the average... 10%!!! We never should have signed that guy... /s

Kind of think that Trout's wrist was hurt more than what was let on. He came back in September..... Also, in August we lost Freese and Gio.....So, we had the rooks and Gillaspie (sp?) at 3rd and Featherweight at 2nd who couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag.

 

As a team offensively August was horrid.

I'm sure Babe Ruth had some bad months along the way. Ted Williams had a horrible slump at the start of the 1942 season, the year after he hit .406.

 

There are many other examples. I'm not worried.

Trout had a 9 WAR season and the total WAR for the Angels entire offense/defense was 18.3.  

 

He was literally half the team's offense.

Also didn't help that AP #5 put up a .231 .277 .365 .642 which was barely better than his July #'s of .224 .269 .439 .708......And Kole put up his worst month of the year also .205 .288 .446 .734....

 

 

No Freese, NO GIO who was cleaning up at the bottom of the order with RISP..... 

 

 

Trout couldn't take time off after the injury he was our offense in 2015 just like he will be going forward!

Slumps happen. That is why it is a team sport. You would hope if Trout slumps others c pulse pick him up. We don't have that type of team. At least not last year.

More reasonable to blame the front office for those horrible trade-deadline acquisitions, guys who couldn't hit.

 

Nobody can expect one player to carry a whole team these days. It doesn't work that way anymore. It probably never did.

He was playing with a hurt wrist. He wouldn't admit it, but when he rolled over on his wrist in late July, he hurt his wrist and it took time to heal. He kept playing regardless. If we had an even a league average LF, we win the division. If we had a better defensive 2B we win the division. If Calhoun could have made that catch just over the RF fence we make the playoffs. There was plenty of guilt to go around without laying the blame on the best player in baseball.

There are way more people to blame for our missing the playoffs than Trout.

Well that's my point. Trout is the only guy we can depend on to be consistent all year long and lead the team, if he goes down with a bad stretch we can't expect anybody to pick him and the team up offensively.
