I remembered reading something the other day where Greg Maddux was complimenting Weaver recently and it struck me as a little odd. Well, not odd, more like random. It didn't really fit the article, just a random quote from Greg Freakin' Maddux, consultant to a rival, thrown in on an article.

I'm sure I am reading into the timing too much, but I wonder if an offer was extended to Bud Black, with Maddux as contingency. Soon after Black is reported to be the Nats manager, now news breaks Maddux is leaving the Rangers.

Wonder if there's some fire behind that smoke and the Bros. Maddux are interested in heading this way.

Maddux apparently worked well with the young pitchers there, albeit their health wasn't the greatest. We have a lot of young pitching coming up.

This really is the best move the Angels could make...  I imagine there will be heavy competition for him.  Given the number of young pitchers in the system -- a guy like Maddox might be the best FA available for the Angels.
