I think both parties are wrong here. It was a dick move by the cops to detain him after he was just trying to get his stolen car back and the dude was in the US illegally. If the city of San Francisco wants to keep dishing out money for BS reasons to illegals then that's between their city council and voters.

The way I read it is, he didn't "win" he settled. It's a win for him of course but not really a test of the law.

If you're in the country illegally you should know there's a chance you'll be deported.

I think the rule of law is important.  This judgement is the opposite of that.  Any logical person will see this.  Just because the cops were dicks does not change the law.
