Part of me thinks that Stoll might have taken the fall for another teammate.  Say Richards.  You would think that there would be stories about him hitting rehab or something in that fashion if he was a user.  Then again, maybe he was holding it for Erin.  Again, he was a FA, so while he lost a bunch, not as much if say Erin or Richards was busted.

The whole Richards sage is just weird. Even going back prior to the termination of the contract. Whatever the outcome I don't expect it to be particularly straight forward.

i'm guessing if the nhlpa wins their case, richards will likely be traded. can't really see him skating for the kings again.

Brown's contract ($5+ million/season through 2022) doesn't hurt as much as one would think.

Richards' contract is the true stumbling block.    Get that resolved at least partially, and then they can offer Kopi $9-10 million/season.

What's crazy is how bad the cap hit gets in a few years.

It's just brutal.

Richards + Brown contracts are total anchors.

Then add in Doughty's contract.

 

I bet they have to trade Kopi - highly doubtful they can pay him what he wants with those albatross contracts on the books.

Pretty hard for the Kings to do anything with the Richards and Voynov crap going on. But I would rather eat some money on Brown in a trade then let Kopi go. I'm not too worried about it right now but ask me again in a couple of months with no extension and I will probably be in a much different mindset.

Yeah, you could always do a trade and retain salary.

It's not ideal but if it keeps Kopi you have to entertain the thought.

I believe you can only have two or three salary retained contracts on the the books, do they have any others already?

getting out from under the richards contract would go a long way in re-signing kopi. i wish they could get this matter resolved. not really sure where things stand right now, but know that it isn't over.

they won't get out of it.

richards was busted for drugs.

there is a protocol the teams have to follow for drug busts.

the collective bargaining agreements are rock solid when it comes to that stuff.

no way the players association just lets an org get out from under a bad contract for something like drugs.

the best part is they will have to delay the buyout another year.

richards will get paid.

i'm confident the nhl will make a special rule getting his salary off the books for the kings. then we can laugh at everyone else.

Voynov is serving his time, Nate! Give the guy some credit. He owned up to it and is now suffering in some prison day spa in Seal Beach.
