Padres getting calls on Street, Benoit

Chuck

Recommended Posts

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Padres are receiving trade interest in Huston Street and Joaquin Benoit.

It's no surprise, of course, as the Padres will be sellers, teams are always looking for bullpen help and both Street (0.96 ERA) and Benoit (1.42 ERA) are having great years. They also both have relatively reasonable contracts, with Street making $7 million this season (with a $7 million club option for 2015) and Benoit making $6 million this season and $8.5 million in 2015 (with an $8 million club option for 2016). Heyman lists the Tigers, Angels, Blue Jays, Orioles, Brewers and Marlins among contending teams thought to be interested in added relief help.

I really hope Jerry is smart enough to not give a  full-time position player for a RP.

Howie is not worth someone that only throws 60 innings a year.

EDIT: What prospects do we have? I'm can't really think of anyone too impressive this year.

If you can shore up a glaring weakness with prospects to give you a chance at competing for the playoffs and through the playoffs, you do it.

Do we have any untouchables in the minors? Nopes! Keep the core in tact, deal young guys.

Oh and would I trade Bedrock for Huston Street? All day, and yesterday.

That would be a biiiiiiiig mistake.

He's going to be very very good.

Cheap, under control, with upside is probably what the Padres will be looking for.

I think one of Shuck, Cowgill, or Calhoun and a pitcher.  How good of a pitcher will depend on which of those three is included.  If it's Calhoun, then an insignificant pitcher that will probably never make the team.  If it's Shuck or Cowgill, then probably one of our top prospect pitchers.

while i agreee that better bulllpen performance will makea giant difference, i do not think the guys we have are that bad or worth what SD will likely be asking.
Yes, that have had some terrible performances... and yes we could use another lock down guy out there, no question, but at what cost?

Ive long said i would be open to trading Howie, but for a reliver?  thats a heck of a steep price... maybe for both, but not one.

Still, i dont think SD would want him anyway, i thini it morel ikely they ask for Cron, or someone like that who is younger and under control for much longer and im not sure i like that for a reliver either unless its a 100% stud.

i dont know.. i kinda feel like this isnt something were going to solve this season and we will need the guys we have to get better.

No one wants Shuck or Cowgill. They're throw ins at best

Let's just be the new Denver Browncos and have Frieri, Benoit, and Street close out games.

In all seriousness, I'm amazed Benoit and Street are still in the league. Seems like they came in around the same time as Shields and Donnelly.

Street is under 30 I think.

GET IT DONE, Dipoto!

Hell, trade for both.

I'm convinced that a solid bullpen will net us the AL West.

Green and Navarro for Street and Benoit.

Bullpen fixed.

2 young guys who are blocked become solid starters for a team in need of offense..

I mean, if we're not going to start Green and we have Kendrick locked down through next year with Lindsey/Yarbrough 2B prospects.. Why not?

I think Green and Borenstein or Sappington type deal may work.

Bedrosian for Street would be an absolute disaster.

I'm fine with a deal for Street but let's not go crazy.

If that's what it takes to improve the bullpen, I'd do it. We still have Morin and Alvarez.

Street, Smith and Morin would be an incredible trio to close shit out. Jepsen, Santiago, Frieri and in the future Alvarez give us a solid BP.
