So WTH really happened to this Malaysian aircraft??

Recommended Posts

Holy hell, Malaysian Airlines is offering $5,000 to each family for a member lost on flight 370. Do they have any clue how obnoxiously crass that is to say to those that lost a family member due to their incompetence? Your husband, wife or child is worth the price of a round trip ticket in first class. Malaysia Airlines is going to be sued out of existence.

They can do this because Malaysia Airlines is state-owned.  Is it possible to sue the government in Malaysia?

We have a family friend who's a retired airline captain.  He flew B727, B737, B747, DC9, DC10.

He's thinking along the lines of gradual or sudden decompression coupled with the pilots receiving inadequate oxygen (hypoxia) which resulted in confusion, unconsciousness, and maybe death before the plane finally crashed.  While their flying was erratic, some things were too professional for a hijacker at the controls -- such as flying the normal waypoints -- so maybe they were in and out of consciousness and horribly disoriented and hallucinating.

He mentioned that Malaysia Airlines flies to India, Europe, and Australia out of that same airport.  He wonders if either pilot had flown to those countries in the preceding days or weeks?  He thinks it's possible, based on his time experiencing hypoxia in altitude chambers, to deceive yourself about the plane's expected destination.  i.e. instead of China, maybe one of the pilots flew toward Perth because he had recently flown there?

I bet arch stanton could shed more light on the effects of hypoxia.

It is impossible to determine how much to pay the families without an official explanation of what happened. Yes, they're all dead, but if it was the fault of the flight crew then the amount should go way up.

It is all the fault of Malaysia airlines. If it is pilot error, that is them, if it is a catastrophic failure it is on them, If it is rogue crew hell bent on destruction it is on them, if it is terrorism they had two passengers get on the plane with false IDs and they never caught it until after the plane went missing, that again is on them. The root cause of this flights disappearance is Malaysia Airlines fault and $5K is a big **** you to the victims families.

The problem is, that is American thinking.  Laws are very different in countries.  And a $5k payout might actually be huge and unheard of in Malaysia.

I wonder if it's possible that something catastrophic happened on their way to Vietnam.  Where gradual decompression took place.  Their first heading would be to head towards land.  Once at land, you go to the other side, and follow the coast down to Kuala Lumpor (I think that was their origin).  If they pass out on the way there, then go in a straight line to off Australia.

Here is a question.  I wonder what the oxygen supply is on the emergency masks the pilots have.

Well the families of the two Americans on board will dispute that.

And where would that be?  Just because they are Americans, doesn't mean they can go to court here to sue.  They would have to go to Malaysia, or probably China to sue.  And both those countries might recognize that the only thing they are owed is the price they paid for a ticket.

Actually I was mistaken.  This article sums up what can happen.

The Montreal Convention dictates that a claim has to be brought in one of five places: where the carrier is domiciled, its main place of business, where the ticket was bought, the destination of the flight or the primary residence of the plaintiff.

So if the residence was in the US, they could sue there.

All that still doesn't explain the lack of communication. It just seems intentional. If you could reach into your memory and find the route to Perth you should be able to remember to key the mic.

My friend said that could be explained by hypoxia.  Maybe.

While in the middle of troubleshooting something, you flip the breakers for all the radios, then the hypoxia sets in and you forget what you just did.  Or the hypoxia sets in and for illogical reasons, you are fooled into believing an electrical problem exists, so you disable all of that stuff.  Or you go back to disable something else and you flip the wrong circuit breakers.

Fact #3) A Boeing 777 has a massive radar signature

It's not difficult to defeat a passive radar system if you know the type and location of the transmitter.

Fact #4) Boeing 777 aircraft cannot survive a collision with the ocean and remain intact

A pilot sharp enough to evade radar and disappear should be given credit that he could make a water landing. Doesn't make sense but what about this does?

Fact #5) A vanishing of Flight 370 would have taken the cooperation of governments

I really think you are underestimating the incompetence levels of certain foreign government agencies. Not saying there wasn't cooperation. Just saying it wasn't absolutely necessary.
