How many hours of sleep do you need to be "functional" for the day?

I used to book too many clients a week and would work from 8am to 2 am with only about four hours sleep between gigs when you add in drive time. It wasn't intentional, I just had too many clients with multiple shows, promos, and various other projects and they were all on the same seasonal cycle.

It got to the point I packed suitcases and left them in the car for either a hotel stop or just crashing on a couch. One of those Friday nights ended up with a visit from the Burbank PD. I worked till 3am and had a golf game in the morning so I set an alarm clock, got 3 hours of sleep, changed, walked out the edit bay door to a motion sensor alarm.

I tried calling everyone on my contact list for the alarm code, for some reason only the 2nd floor I was on in this three story building had the alarm set. So I had to wait for the Burbank PD to show up to fill o uta false alarm then rushed to the course to tee off without any practice swing.

After the game I went back to work and didn't get home until Sunday at about 7 pm.
