If they sign one bullpen arm, I'm taking Joe Smith. If they have the wiggle room to sign two, I'd love Howell and Smith. They were interested in Howell last year so I wonder if they'll go harder after him this year

Joe Smith and JP Howell would give the Angels a pretty sick bullpen. And that's even assuming Burnett isn't healthy. Add Burnett and oh god I just ripped my pants.

Howell and Smith would actually be really good. Smith has been very solid for a few years now and Howell is lethal against lefties. In 2013, lefties had a .203 wOBA against Howell. That's nasty.

Also, #Angels are focused immediately on relievers more than starters. Joe Smith, Edward Mujica, JP Howell.

 

Not a bad idea to try and lock up some of these relievers early on and then worry about fixing the rotation with FA/trades. Getting Howell and Smith would be great

Handling the 'pen before getting to the Winter Meetings will help with zeroing in on exact needs to improve the club too. Much better than showing up to the hotel with too many needs.

two of those three would be great.  the market for starters will likely develop more when the posting situation for Tanaka gets settled.
