Should the Angels sign Moustakas this off season?

Moose is worth 20 Rendon’s which doesn’t add up to much. He at least shows up to work everyday while Rendon is limited to paydays. Good player but nothing that you should have in a complete rebuild which is what the next manager is facing. Why not use the roster spot for someone younger because nothing is going to happen overnight. 2024 is looking like an epic battle with the Athletics to stay out of the basement of the AL West. That’s not even close to an exaggeration.

That is every single bit of an exaggeration

No chance he gets two years, he’s played well for us for 20+ games after 3 bad years.

Played pretty well for Colorado in a limited number of games too....if he finishes strong, he's got a solid case for a decent one year deal, but I doubt he gets 2 years....if somebody offers him 2, you move on to somebody else, maybe Urshela, if he is healthy....

^^^This^^^   Unless he craps the bed for the remaining 7 weeks, he would be worth a 1 year deal….coverage at 1b and 3b, shouldn’t cost a ton….

1st, 3rd (for the eventual Rendon injury), DH, pinch hitter and an emergency at 2nd base... He's a professional hitter and knows his flaws and how to drive the ball. I wanted him since he went to Milwaukee and then Cincy.

He's a good veteran pickup!

He had, had some issues with lower body leg - hammy issues and nagging injuries. In cincy. It's hard for hitters when you have no base! Extremely hard for guys who lift!

Regarding Urshella, when he went down that really hurt us in retrospect.  He was a good situational hitter.  I just don't know how impactful his injury will be on the rest of his career.  I haven't heard of that one happening much before.  I agree that a Moustakas deal should be for one year, and Urshella as well on a one year deal.  All that said, it assumes that we are going for it next year and not rebuilding.  Thirteen guys are on the free agent list for the Angels, some are easy discards, but how the ones that we want to keep get resolved will set up lot about what really happens to the 2024 roster.

You are living in a fantasy world if you really think the Angels will do a complete rebuild.  The only way that happens is if we get completely new ownership, and they want to take that on.  If that would happen (I don't think it will), I would think they would want to try a year of seeing what they have and how well they compete before going that route.  They would probably make baseball operations changes, and coaching changes first.

Mike Moustakas in his 35 Games with the Angels has a .285 AVG, 7 HR, 14 XBH and 23 RBI

Six of those seven homers were meaningful as they have been to tie or take the lead.

Extend him to a 2-year deal please. I mean at worst he's a great backup 1B/3B and power bat off the bench.

I'd let the season play out....make sure he finishes strong and stays healthy....I think he could be had for a solid one year deal...he is a really good fit with the Angels for several reasons...at his age, a two year deal isn't likely, though all it takes is one team....

I'm with you.  See how it plays out, then a one-year deal.

I'm just growing tired of these one-year deals and roster flips every year.

Maybe a 1-year deal and a team option for the second year.

I love his leadership on a team with only a rookie (Neto) that seems to have any passion for winning.

Since we have the Human IL Machine supposedly as the 3rd baseman, they need to have someone who can play at least 120 games there and play other positions. Moose can do that. Without Ohtani, and with Trout probably being a .800-.850 OPS guy at this point of his career, I don't know how this team is going to score much more than 4 runs a game next season.

Moustakas played 44 games in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, 62 games in 2021, and 78 games last year.

It will depend on what Moose would like to stay, money wise.  Also, years wise.  If another team offers a multi-year deal, I would think that we'd be out.  But, if he is interested in an Urshela type deal, then I think that the Angels would be interested in a one-year deal.

We could overpay a bit for his leadership skills

I thought the formula for rondons was:

(number of times you weakly battered a fan / number of stints on the dl) *100

…. so Rendon is only at 50 Rondons but there’s still time to come back and lose his temper

Don't forget the crazy amount of money the team gets for their newest sponsors thanks to Rendon...vagisil and summers eve.

thats worth at least 5-10 more Rodons
