They're not rushing things. He has to be protected on the 40-man next year, anyway.  He's just on the taxi squad now, so this is likely just a way to get him some exposure to big league games during the regular season, without actually adding him to the active roster.

Its a lost season so there is very little pressure on a prospect to perform to a certain level. Maybe he needs a taste of big league pitching to know what he needs to work on in the minors next year.

I kinda hope he comes in and gives up like 4 runs without recording an out and then gets released after the game.

Makes sense to have O'Hoppe hang around the big league team on the taxi squad for the last week of the season.

If anything, just being in the pre-game meetings with Stassi and Suzuki is a good way to familiarize him with parts of the major league gig.
